More Kraven
2007-07-23 10:41:40
Contrary to the impression given by my more recent softball-centric postings, I do actually edit books at Marvel, and as promised previously here’s another peek inside the upcoming Kraven’s Last Hunt Premiere Classic HC. Colorist/Painter extraordinaire Richard Isanove digitally painted over Mike Zeck’s original pencils to help Spidey rise from the grave in proper style. This image will be showcased on the jacket of the regular version and included among the extras in both the regular and variant. Enjoy.

Punisher, of course...
Yeah, hey, that's cool... I'm looking forward to buying it. Didn't mike Zeck do some Punisher back in the day? That'd be great to have all that back in print. And also, maybe the Marvel Knights Garth Ennis stuff. That'd be cool too. Just in case you were wondering what I thought.

wow. I love how Spidey's chest is mud splattered as he's leaning forward. Gorgeous and really appreciated -- no one would have complained had you just published the book without this cool "upgrade".

Wow.
I love this cover! Its creepy, yet oddly fascinating, and I don't know about anyone else, but I stared at it for a little while. I love the imagery and the use of light with the art. Its a very well done piece with a lot of detail and it really captures the eye. Its just awesome. I love it.

other Classic story to consider
The entire Starlin Captain Marvel/Adam Warlock/Thanos storyline, This demands to be reprinted in a decent format. Captain Marvel has at least been collected, but Warlock has only been reprinted (at least 3 times by last count), and it really should be. It's a stand-out highlight of 1970s Marvel Comics.

Please?

X
i just read from newsarama that you'll be doing wolverine: origin as the 3rd volume in this collection. my question is why? its not that the mini-series was never collected in an oversized HC already with plenty of extras....and it was just released like 5 yrs ago, right? so why not do WEAPON X by barry windsor smith instead or INFINITY GAUNTLET by starlin/perez/lim or INHUMANS by jenkins/lee or SPIDERMAN: VENOM by michellinie/mcfarlane or SPIDERMAN: SPIRITS OF THE EARTH or INCR. HULK: FUTURE IMPERFECT by david/perez?

Interior colouring
If I recall correctly, the last Kraven TPB interiors featured an updated coloring job that was different than how it was originally presented in the individual issues.

Does this TPB reprint the issues as they were originally colored? Or does it reprint the "recoloring" featured in the last TPB?

(Feel free to correct me if I'm altogether wrong on my assumptions about the recoloring job!)

More Ideas
Daredevil : Born Again (this is obvious)

is Marvel brave enough to rerelease Todd McFarlane's Torment?

the X-Men The Dark Phoenix Saga perhaps?

Jim Steranko's Nick Fury is a must.

I dont know about you guys but a collection featuring all the McFarlane/Larsen/Bagley appearances of Venom would sell like hotcakes.

Looks Great!
I'm a big fan of the classic stuff getting collected and given special treatment! I will definitely get this.

I think you need to collect "definitive" stuff from each of your main characters.

Simonson's Thor (at least the Ballad of Beta Ray Bill, which was collected years ago. It covers his first 4 issues.)

Miller's Born Again (I don't currently own it in TPB, so that's one guaranteed sale!)

Miller and Romita Jr.'s Man Without Fear (see above)

The Death of Jean DeWolff (I do have this trade, but would upgrade)

Armor Wars (It's due for a reprint)

Stern and Byrne's Captain America (why hasn't this been reprinted???) Jeez...Promote the best work of the character that you're trying to push hardest!)

Great
Venom Arc sure, Future Imperfect also, Armour Wars now I'm getting my wallet out. Life and Death of Captain Marvel needs to be reprinted as well because since we have Nitro in Civil War perhaps a back story as to what made his guy who he is.

Great Suggestions
Keep 'em coming! All I can say is that some of you will be very happy with our upcoming plans and some of you run crying into the night -- not because of which books we're releasing; you just seem to do that every so often...
