Marvel Internships:


Art Returns:
Art returns interns must be available 2-3 days a week and must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Interns help organize and process the original artwork that needs to be returned to the artists. Interns also do filing, mailings, and deal with extensive paperwork. Interns may also work with the Bound Book Room and Digital Archives, in which they organize comic books and CD archives, as well as occasional research for the editorial staff or the Toy Department. Candidates should know how to use Excel and Word.

Editorial:
Interns must be available 2-3 days a week, and must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Applicants should have an interest in comics and the process that gets them from the creators' heads to readers' hands. Ability to multitask and work independently is a must. It is helpful, but not necessary, to be majoring in a related field such as: English, Comparative Literature or Communications. Familiarity with Marvel's characters and comics in general is extremely beneficial. Interns help facilitate the editorial process, including the transmittal and receipt of artwork, plots, and scripts.

Production (A.K.A. The Bullpen):
Interns must be available 2-3 days a week, and must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Applicants should have an interest in comics and the process that gets them from the creators' heads to readers' hands. Ability to multitask and work independently is a must. Production interns should have Mac skills and be familiar with Photoshop, Illustrator, and Quark. Familiarity with Marvel's characters and comics in general is extremely beneficial. Interns will obtain firsthand knowledge regarding the physical production of a comic book, from scanning original art to creating the print-ready PDF files. Familiarity with Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, and InDesign is required.

Web / Online:
Interns must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Surf the web on Marvel.com and a wide range of other online initiatives! Marvel.com Interns should have knowledge of video games, pop culture, movies, TV, etc. All web interns help manage and update content on Marvel.com and our other websites. We offer four types of internships:
  • Web Analytics, Online Marketing and Business Development Interns must be available at least 3 days a week and are involved in sales and traffic analysis, assisting in research of new revenue opportunities and ongoing site improvement. See what users are visiting our sites and analyze their behavior, using it to make future projections. Also, help out with conducting usability testing and seo. Help us to make Marvel.com even better!

  • Web editorial interns must be available 2-3 days a week, ideally Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Applicants should have an interest in comics and web internet work. Ability to multitask and work independently is a must. It is helpful, but not necessary, to be majoring in a related field such as: Journalism or Marketing. Strong knowledge of Marvel's characters and comics in general is extremely beneficial. Marvel.com Interns should also have knowledge of video games, pop culture, movies, TV etc.

  • Web design interns help design the look and feel for the online face of Marvel. Duties include feature and wallpaper design, ad design, scanning, interface design, image selection, flash animation, and graphic production.

  • Web development interns help code the inner workings of the Marvel website. Duties include HTML production, PHP, MySQL application design and coding, QA, and user acceptance testing, as well as actionScript development for flash applications.

All web interns help manage and update content on Marvel.com and our other sites. If you have skills in both design and coding we will tailor the internship to suit your educational and professional goals.

Creative Services:
Interns must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Creative services interns help maintain a vast character database. They scan and retouch artwork, and track files. Interns should be graphics or illustration majors, and a basic knowledge of Photoshop is required. Also important is a general knowledge of our characters and comic books.

Brand Assurance:
Intern must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. The Brand Assurance intern will work with receivables, organizing, photographing and documenting consumer product submissions, in addition to ad hoc data entry assignments. Basic computer skills are a must. Organization skills are very important. Candidate should be able to work with potentially sensitive/confidential material, as consumer products are submitted for approvals prior to being shipped to retail.

Inventory:
Interns must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Interns help maintain the inventory of comics, trades, and hard covers and catalog them into an Excel spreadsheet. Assist in obtaining the deliveries of incoming packages, preparing bundles, and sorting the packages of comics to be mailed to the freelancers. Candidates should be detail-oriented and able to work independently. Knowledge of our comics is helpful. They will also learn the ordering process in the Oracle system.

Business Development & Merchandising:
Interns must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Interns are involved in sales analysis and tracking; they also help prepare marketing materials. Interns gain a basic understanding of the distribution process.

Sales Communications:
Interns must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Sales interns should be interested in entering the Sales/Marketing field, as well as learning about advertising sales, lead generation and follow up. Interns help develop ideas, identify targets investigate and find contacts within those companies, assist sales people in appointment making, assist sales people in follow-up, and go on sales calls.

Legal:
Interns must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Legal interns assist in the legal department with day-to-day operations-including drafting and editing contracts, project development, and office administration, as well as hands-on experience in assisting in licensing and promotions operations.

Accounting:
Interns must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Interns are responsible for data entry, general filing, creating Excel spreadsheets for special projects, basic accounting, and verifying proper backup for travel and entertainment expenses.

Publishing Operations:
Interns work mainly with Print Logistics, perform minor tasks for Editorial Administration and help compile comic books. They gain hands-on experience with a number of useful computer programs, such as Adobe Photoshop and Quark.

Scanning (A.K.A. The Bullpen):
Intern must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. The scanning intern organizes and scans various office files, in addition to ad hoc data entry assignments. Basic computer skills are a must, but intern will be trained to use the scanning equipment. Organization skills are also very important. Candidate should be able to work with potentially sensitive/confidential material, as files will range in content from art encyclopedias to legal and financial files.

Marvel Toys/ToyBiz:
Interns must be available 2-3 days a week, and must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. The Toybiz toy design department focuses on new concepts and designs for Marvel character toys. Interns must have good graphic design skills, as well as an interest in toys and the design process. Drawing abilities are also a plus. Must be familiar with and able to use Photoshop and Illustrator.

Licensing/Consumer Products:
Interns must be available 2-3 days a week, and must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Interns should have an interest in one or more of the following areas: licensing, sales, marketing, product development, and entertainment marketing. Intern will support the department with daily activities such as organizing licensee information, preliminary research on potential partnerships, assisting with Powerpoint presentations, and preparing Excel spreadsheets. Familiarity with Excel and Powerpoint required.

IT Desktop Intern:
IT desktop interns must be available 2-3 days a week and must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Interns will help support desktop (PC and MAC) software installs and troubleshooting problems. A qualified candidate must have some MAC and PC hardware knowledge and experience with Microsoft OS and Office tools. IT Desktop Interns will also be responsible for entering and updating IT helpdesk tickets.

Marvel Studios:
Unpaid Development Internships available at Marvel Studios. Positions available year round in our Los Angeles office. Both full time and part time internships available. Interns must receive course credit. We are interested in candidates who have a strong desire to pursue careers in film and television development. We are looking for candidates that are currently enrolled in college-level film programs. Responsibilities include script coverage, extensive project research, filing, faxing, photocopying, and other basic office duties. Human Resources:
Interns must be available 2-3 days a week, and must be able to prove they will be receiving school credit. Interns must have a business- related or liberal-arts major. Ideally, this intern would be interested in working for Marvel in the HR Department upon graduation.
