The Devil Inside: Daredevil Annual
A Daredevil tale with a twist

By Eric Drumm
Matt Murdock is a man who gives people the benefit of the doubt. He has girlfriends with questionable pasts, a father who did terrible things out of necessity and his own guilt and doubt in himself to deal with. However, he always found a way to see the good in people, whether or not that would end up blowing up in his face.
The DAREDEVIL annual by Andre Parks with story by series regular Ed Brubaker (CAPTAIN AMERICA) asks us the question of if having faith in someone is a fool's errand. Editor Warren Simons tells us what we can expect out of the story.
"Carlos LaMuerto, aka The Black Tarantula, is paroled from Riker's and returns to the violent streets of New York City to find chaos, temptation and peril at every turn. Carlos – trying to walk the straight and narrow -- turns to Matt Murdock for help. But can DD help keep a rehabilitated supervillain out of trouble…? Even as the Yakuza return to the streets of Hell's Kitchen…?"
To capture the complex character of Daredevil, you would need a writer who understands his deep complexities, and doesn't just write him as a butt-kicking blind dude. Some of the most prolific writers of our time have left their mark on Daredevil such as Frank Miller, Brian Michael Bendis and Ed Brubaker. However, Warren Simons is confident that Andre Parks will be joining this fraternity of hardboiled Daredevil writers.
"Ande's done a great job with the script here. I couldn't be happier with the Annual. The ending is absolutely chilling. Some great stuff here," Simons says of Parks's work.
Parks may be a good judge of character, but Daredevil perhaps not so much. Taking a seriously bad guy under his wing is dangerous, but even more so when you are Matt Murdock. Always a bit too forgiving and a smidge too faithful, this time it may not be worth his trouble. Will this be another example of a bad person taking advantage of the giving and faithful Matt Murdock?
"That's the million dollar question that Ande and Ed are going to explore…" says Simons.
They say that you are defined by who you surround yourself with. In Daredevil's case, lets hope that's not true.
Keep the faith with the DAREDEVIL ANNUAL by Ed Brubaker and Andre Parks, on sale October 31.
