TGIF: A Marvel Thanksgiving
Marvel’s creators give thanks for what the House of Ideas has brought them over the years

Marvel's Finest:
Stan Lee and
Spider-Man

Thanksgiving: a time for family, food, festivity…and of course, comics!

We pulled some of Marvel's ace creators and editors away from stuffing their faces full of turkey—or reasonable vegetarian alternatives—to find out what they're most thankful for when it comes to the House of Ideas.

It's Friday, so kick back, relax and enjoy.
PHIL JIMENEZ (upcoming artist of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN): The Marvel "character" I'm most thankful for is Stan Lee—since, without him and artists like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, we wouldn't even have a Marvel Universe! And I'd be out of a job!

Chris Yost loves
the Punisher—
and violence

CHRIS YOST (writer of X-MEN: EMPEROR VULCAN): I am thankful for Garth Ennis' PUNISHER MAX. Reading comics like NEW X-MEN and EMPEROR VULCAN can be a chore, but Garth's book reminds me of the joy of comics. And violence.

STEVE SCOTT (artist of MARVEL ADVENTURES HULK): This is a tough one as there are so many Marvel comics, characters and creators I have been thankful for.

I'm really thankful for the Hulk—thanks Stan and Jack! Love the character and the first comic I remember ever reading was the INCREDIBLE HULK #200. Very grateful

How To Draw Comics
The Marvel Way

to be drawing him right now in his Marvel Adventures incarnation.

I am really thankful for [artist] Michael Golden's run on MICRONAUTS for helping me realize that penciling comics is what I wanted to do for a living. Still remember where I was when I picked up issue three from the spinner rack.

Lastly, it was "How To Draw Comics the Marvel Way" that gave me the guidance into how to begin.

REGINALD HUDLIN (writer of BLACK PANTHER): Stan and Jack's run on FANTASTIC FOUR, because without that modern

A fantastic run:
Stan & Jack's
Fantastic Four

comics don't exist.

BRIAN REED (writer of CAPTAIN MARVEL): Of all the Marvel things I am thankful for, I would say I am most thankful that [THE ORDER writer] Matt Fraction is an easy target in "Call of Duty 4." It improves my score tremendously each and every game.

BILL ROSEMANN (Marvel editor): I am thankful that penciler Wellinton Alves fell out of space and into my computer. He's a surprising and welcome addition to the NOVA team. I'm also thankful that writers Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning make NOVA and ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST great reads month after month!

TOM BRENNAN (Marvel assistant editor): Given that I refuse to believe Bill Rosemann isn't a comic book character come to life, can I also pick him?

ZEB WELLS (upcoming writer of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN): I'm thankful for Frog-Man, because he was the first character I was allowed to work

The fabulous
Frog-Man

on. Remember, if it wasn't for B-list characters there wouldn't be B-list writers.

CHRISTOS GAGE (writer of HOUSE OF M: AVENGERS): I'm most thankful that I get to add to the mythology of characters I grew up reading and loving. For a kid who used to create stick-figure adventures on notebook paper of the Hulk, the X-Men and the Avengers, getting to grow up and do it for real is a dream come true!

BOB GALE (upcoming writer of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN): Me, I'm thankful for what the FF has done for all of us: While I'm enjoying my Thanksgiving feast with family and friends, I'm thankful that Galactus will not be devouring our planet and using Thanksgiving as a cheap excuse to do it. Let's just hope Galactus doesn't celebrate Christmas…

LAUREN SANKOVITCH (Marvel assistant editor): Yes, it's cheesy, but I'm thankful for the great office I landed in and the magnificent crew of people here at Marvel that have welcomed me into their geeky embrace.
