Do you know your LORDS OF AVALON?
Here's a crash course of the main characters in the story adapted from Sherrilyn Kenyon's best-selling book series currently appearing in the Marvel mini-series of the same name, complete with comments from assistant editor Jordan D. White.
Kerrigan
Powerful and ruthless, the Scourge of Camelot has made a reputation for himself with the blood of his enemies. As the possessor of the ancient sword Caliburn, he has been granted immortality, superhuman strength, and the knowledge to control black magics.
Kerrigan rules alongside Morgen Le Fey from the long dead King Arthur's castle, plotting to destroy Merlin and last remaining
Knights of the Round Table. Though often cold and unforgiving, his recent interactions with the young seamstress Seren have revealed his heart may not be as black as he wants his contemporaries to believe.
"Seren doesn't know Kerrigan well, she hasn't seen the things he's done, but she refuses to believe that
anyone could be
all bad," explains White. "Is she right? Is Kerrigan really a cute cuddly puppy-dog inside? That remains to be seen."
Seren
Appearances can be deceiving, and there's evidence that there's something special about this apprentice seamstress.
The young Seren had hoped for the simple life of a guild weaver, but when she mistakes Arthur's knights Gawain and Agravain as madmen she unknowingly runs into the hands the evil Pendragon, Kerrigan. Now a prisoner of Camelot, Seren has become Kerrigan's
bargaining chip to get control of the fabled round table. Terrified by the darkness of her new surroundings, Seren finds herself strangely drawn to her captor.
"Considering that she starts the series out being rejected as a weaver, I think it's safe to say she'll end up places she never even dreamed she'd see," promises White. "She keeps telling people she's just a simple peasant, but I wouldn't be so sure."
Morgen Le Fey
After winning the long war against King Arthur and his knights, Morgen has taken up the throne of Camelot. As queen, she has
turned the legendry palace into a house of demons and self-indulgence, where she surrounds herself with individuals who live to serve and die for her.
Morgen has made Kerrigan her king because of his great power, but it appears that she has plans to use and manipulate him to her own means. As beautiful and deadly, Morgen Le Fey's full motives have yet to be seen.
"Morgen is the Queen of the dark forces in this world, and Kerrigan is her right hand man," says White. "But they don't exactly see eye to eye on everything. Indeed, things can get pretty heated between them, so if Seren puts them at cross-purposes…it could get ugly."
Blaise
Although blind in human form, the most trusted ally of Kerrigan is actually a dragon of unimaginable power. The only one who does not hold his tongue around the demon king, Blaise's loyalty to Kerrigan find its roots in friendship, not fear.
"Blaise is a fun character, pretty much the only one not scared to death of Kerrigan," notes White. "They've been together so long, Blaise is the closest thing Kerrigan has to a friend, though I'm sure [Kerrigan] still thinks he'd kill him in a heartbeat if he had to."
