Born and raised in Harlem, Carl Lucas spent his youth in a gang called the Bloods. He was arrested multiple times and sent to prison for a murder he did not commit. He had little chance of parole. During this time, the Mutant-Human War was at its height. With Sentinel armies losing ground against Magneto and his Mutants, the United States government was desperate. In an effort to create their own super-soldiers they began experimenting on inmates at Cage's prison. Luke volunteered for the program and was one of its few success stories. More powerful than his experimenters anticipated, Luke was able to escape. He made his way back to Hell's Kitchen and, in the months following the end of the Mutant-Human War, established himself as a major crime lord.

Recently, Luke and his gang have become the leading crime group in Hell's Kitchen. He gathered other impressive humans and superhumans and was able to destroy the Kingpin's organization, as well as put down the Dragon group.

Realizing it is only a matter of time before mutants move in on his territory, Luke has begun to channel his gang's energy into becoming a human resistance movement. This idea has become even more pressing since Luke was confronted by a young mutant girl named Layla Miller. Layla used her mutant powers to show Luke a world different from this one -- one in which Luke is a hero with a girlfriend and child on the way. What consequences this has on Luke and his decision-making process is unknown.
