Al Gaines was accidentally exposed to radioactive waste products, and acquired the power to transform nuclear decay for personal use. Calling himself Nuke, Al became the Squadron Supreme's sixth recruit. Grief-stricken after his parents died due to exposure to his irradiated body, he went berserk and suffocated during a battle with Doctor Spectrum.
