Bruce Morgan deliberately threw acid in Horatio's face during chemistry class. His features were hideously scarred and had taken on a corpse like appearance, Horatio became a recluse. He identified with snakes because they were shunned like him, Horatio spent years studying and experimenting, becoming an expert snake charmer and developing immunity to most snake venoms.
