‘Marvel’s Hit-Monkey’ Will Bring the Weird

Josh Gordon and Will Speck on bringing the character into animation for the upcoming Hulu series.

It was revealed this week that four new animated TV series are in the works from Marvel Television and Hulu, starring some notably oddball Marvel characters, which will lead into all of them teaming up in the special event on Hulu, “Marvel’s The Offenders.”

One of these series is “Marvel’s Hit-Monkey,” focused on the oh-so unique assassin who first appeared in the 2010 one-shot HIT-MONKEY #1, from Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajić, before getting his own limited series soon after.

Marvel’s Hit Monkey” tells the tale of a wronged Japanese snow monkey, mentored by the ghost of an American assassin, as he cuts a wide swath through the Tokyo underworld in this darkly cinematic and brutally funny revenge saga. The team of Josh Gordon and Will Speck (“Blades of Glory,” “Office Christmas Party”) serve as writers/Executive Producers on the series, with Jeph Loeb also Executive Producing.

Gordon and Speck are very excited to be working on the upcoming Hulu series, with Gordon saying, “We first read HIT-MONKEY about eight years ago, not long after it was published, and we were immediate fans. To us it’s one of the best origin stories for any Marvel character ever.“

Said Speck, “When we met with Jeph and everyone at Marvel, we could tell right away that they just wanted to make something that swung for the fences. That’s all you’re looking for, partners who want to make the weirdest stuff possible.”
