Unlike most mutants, Hank showed signs of mutation from birth. Since he had always appeared different and it was believed most mutants evolved during their teens, Henry did not endure the oppression other mutants dealt with. Because of that, he spent most of the Mutant-Human War in relative obscurity, working on his Ph. D. in Biochemistry. It was not until well after
Magneto's triumph over the humans that Henry was officially labelled a mutant during a census screening at the college where he taught.
Welcomed into the mutant community, Henry flourished as an academic. Magnus placed him in the employ of Tony Stark at Stark Industries to monitor Sentinel and biological programs being conducted there. He is considered an expert on mutation and human biology and is currently supervising the Vision Project.
