Kimora ruled the extradimensional realm known as Kareumbra with an iron fist for many lifetimes. In the 1940s, Dr. Michael Carling in vented a device that opened a portal between Earth and Kareumbra. He spent years there, met with a native women Jhet, fell in love and fathered Rose. Carling continued his experiments but was eventually discovered and confronted by Kimora, who sought to use his technology to extend his reign to other dimensions. When Carling resisted, Kimora slew Jhet. Carling fled with Rose to Earth through a dimensional rift, and Kimora followed but he was disoriented by the transit, enabling Carling's escape. Kimora pursued him for years, and Carling eventually sought protection with the research firm Landau, Luckman & Lake (LLL). Kimora at some point battled the warrior
Logan (James Howlett, later Wolverine) in Kyoto, Japan. In the mid-1950s, Kimora captured Michael and Rose Carling, but Michael refused to give up his secrets, even when Kimora threatened Rose's life. Informed by LLL's Chang, Logan fought Kimora but was on the verge of defeat until Dr. Carling struck Kimora from behind and then decapitated him. Surviving even this, Kimora escaped through a pinhole rift, eventually returning to Kageumbra, where, due to fear, his despotic rule despite his absence; upon his return, the natives wept. The rift allowed Kimora to travel between Earth and Kageumbra, but it was too unstable for the large scale travel he desired for an invasion force.
