TRY JOSHUA'S PICKS!

X-Men by Joss Whedon, John Cassaday & Laura Martin

in Astonishing X-Men (2004) #1

When I picture the X-Men, this is it. Before this I just looked at the pretty art, but this is the first time I consumed the X-Men as a whole story. John Cassaday is my all-time favorite comic artist. Crystal clear storytelling and amazing scale. I love this.

"Old Man Logan"

in Wolverine (2003) #66

Mark Millar and Steve McNiven at their best. Great story, but of course I’m obsessed with McNiven here. Standout panel is easily the “Venomized” T-Rex. I have a hard copy that stays next to my desk at all times for a constant source of inspiration.

Hulk's Clobbering Time

in Fantastic Four (1961) #112

Hulk vs. Thing! John Buscema and Stan Lee! I have a HUGE soft spot for Marvel’s First Family. The cover tells you all you need to know—the whole issue is just a fight between Ben Grimm and Bruce Banner. I’m dying to draw a remake of this issue!

Wolverine's "Weapon X" Origin

in Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #72

Read through issue #84. Writer and artist Barry Windsor-Smith’s glorious linework is a feast for the eyes, especially his rendering of Logan with big, wild hair, and the all the cords and tubes coming in and out of him. Watching Wolverine in a berserker rage popping his claws and ripping through a pack of wolves is my jam in issue #77.

Doctor Strange by Jason Aaron & Chris Bachalo

in Doctor Strange (2015) #1

I love me some Chris Bachalo, and his thought, craft, and creativity in this run is incredible. Everything is gorgeous about his DOCTOR STRANGE arc. Not a single wasted panel. Read through issue #20.

First Marvel Work

in New Avengers (2015) #7

Editor Tom Brevoort recruited me into the Avengers office to give me my first at-bat in the Big Leagues. I got to draw a big, crazy Tiger God conjured from the mind of a mad genius named Al Ewing.

Frontlines of 'NAM

in The 'NAM (1986) #1

Really good war comic. Gritty realism mixed in with some heart and touching moments. Great Michael Golden art too.

Punisher vs. the '80s

in Punisher War Journal (1988) #6

Read through issue #18. Early Jim Lee and some badass Punisher stories. The ‘80s at their best.
