After Ravonna perished on Kang’s behalf, the overlord spiraled into grief and desperation. Kang even split into two counterparts following a battle with Thor, allowing one Kang to cryogenically preserve Ravonna’s body.
Divergent Reality

In his continued efforts to reverse Ravonna’s death, Kang inadvertently created a split timeline when he saved her at the moment before she was shot. The aftermath to this conundrum was a new reality in which Kang was killed instead.
