Becoming Black Panther

In Black Panther (2009) #4

Wakanda is under attack from Morlun and there's no time to waste. Read through issue #5 for the story arc where Shuri puts on the Black Panther suit! But first, an initiation exam with Wakandan Panther God Bast. Surprisingly, Shuri fails her first test to become the Black Panther, but instead of being devoured by Bast, she is spared and given a harsh warning to be humble, not entitled, when accepting power.

General Shuri

In Doomwar (2010) #1

Shuri in full-blown general mode. During this event, Shuri recruited heroes like Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and the Fantastic Four to end Doctor Doom’s siege of Vibranium in Wakanda. In the final issue, Shuri lays down the law with Doom by reminding him that Wakanda doesn’t start wars but ends them. It’s a brilliant bit of diplomacy.

The Aja-Adanna

In Black Panther (2016) #8

The issue that culminates the spiritual journey of Shuri as Wakanda’s Aja-Adanna. While in a frozen state between life and death, Shuri is aided by a griot spirit that looks like her mother, Queen Ramonda. Trapped in a plane called the Djalia—the spiritual home of Wakanda’s collective memory—Shuri emerges with all-new powers as the "Keeper of Wakandan Lore."

To Find T'Challa

In Shuri (2018) #1

A great entry point run from Nnedi Okorafor, Leonardo Romero, and Jordie Bellaire. We open with Shuri completely in her element: the lab. But when brother T’Challa goes off on a space mission with no promise of return, the Princess is asked to assume the mantle of the Black Panther. What happens next defies all expectations, including duties "owed" to Wakanda.

Wakanda's Leader

In Wakanda (2022) #1

Running concurrently with the events of BLACK PANTHER (2021), this anthology features a great Shuri standalone story by Stephanie Williams, Paco Medina, and Bryan Valenza. With T’Challa now in exile, Shuri is pressed more than ever to defend Wakanda’s throne. That’s why the timing couldn’t be worse for a...Rhino rampage?!
