Hoping to spare her a horrible death Wolverine decides to kill the woman he loves. However, Wolverine’s actions awaken Jean’s latent Phoenix powers! On their return to Earth, Xorn manages to hit Jean with one last dying blast and she perishes in Cyclops’ arms.


In X-Men: Phoenix - Endsong (2005) #1

The alien Shi’ar resurrect the Phoenix Force, and a fragment of its power finds its way to Jean Grey’s grave!
