Punch America Chavez’s Spicy Stars for International Day of the Girl

Happy International Day of the Girl!

The United Nations declared October 11, back in 2011, as the “International Day of the Girl Child” in hopes of helping “galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential.”

If there ever was a Super Hero that embody that spirit, it’s Miss America Chavez – a strong, independent young Latinx hero in “Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors.” And star Cierra Ramirez brings a lot of spunk and punch to the role.

In “Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors,” America’s painful past initially compels her to reject leadership and friends until the Secret Warriors showed America her unique place in the universe.

Our resident foodie Jenn Fujikawa (@justjenn) is back with another badass recipe that’ll surely transport your taste buds to another dimension.

America Chavez Spicy Stars

You'll Need:

baking sheet
parchment or silpat non-stick baking mat
wire rack
piping bag with large star tip

Ingredients:

4 eggs
1 egg plus 1 tsp of water, for egg wash
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup whole milk
1 cup monterey jack cheese, shredded
1 (4 0z) can diced jalapeños
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
¼ tsp salt
dash of white pepper

Directions:

• Preheat the over to 400 degrees. Prep a baking sheet with parchment or silpat.
• In a saucepan, bring to a boil the milk, butter, salt and pepper.

• Turn off the heat and add the flour, mixing until the dough starts to pull away from the sides. Let sit for 5 minutes.
• Add the eggs one at a time, stirring completely.
• Stir in the cheese and jalapeños.

• Place in a piping bag and use a large star tip to pipe star shapes onto the prepped baking sheet.

• Lightly brush with egg wash and bake for 20 minutes.
• Let cool on a wire rack.
