Puzzle Out The Punisher With This DIY Jigsaw
'Marvel's The Punisher' Season 2 hits Netflix on January 18!
Frank Castle returns this week when "Marvel's The Punisher" Season 2 arrives this Friday, January 18.
While he’s busy putting the pieces of his life back together, you can tackle a Jigsaw of your own by making this DIY puzzle inspired by the Netflix-exclusive series.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- blank white puzzle pieces
- "Marvel's The Punisher" logo puzzle template, below
- Back issues of PUNISHER comic books
- painter's tape
- black spray paint
- white spray paint
- clear acrylic paint (optional)
- small papier-mâché box
- decoupage glue
- paint sponge
- paint brush
- foam paint brush
- scissors
- craft knife
- pencil
GET STARTED!
Step One: Begin by spray painting the blank puzzle pieces black. Spray lightly!
Tip: Too much paint will glue the pieces together! Also, if you spray lightly enough that some small dots of grey and white are visible, it will add some detail you’ll appreciate later when putting the pieces together. Let dry completely.
Step Two: Next, while the puzzle pieces are drying, print the "Marvel's The Punisher" skull template. If you have cardstock, it can work best as a stencil, but plain printer paper gets the job done as well.
Step Three: Cut the logo from the template and set aside. With the craft knife, carefully cut out the black sections of "Marvel's The Punisher" skull. While you don’t have to be exact, the more detail you can cut out, the better.
Step Four: Use the painter’s tape to hold down the stencil in the center of the completely dried black puzzle pieces.
Step Five: Dip the paint sponge in the white acrylic paint. Dab the paint on top of the template to paint the skull on the puzzle pieces. Again, don’t add too much paint, or you might inadvertently glue the puzzle together.
Tip: If you do seal pieces together with paint, you can use the craft knife to cut between the dry pieces and free them.
Step Six: While the white paint is still wet, remove the template. Use a bristle paint brush to lightly drag the paint downward from the skull in a few spots to create a dripping spray paint look. Let the paint dry completely.
Step Seven: Find back issues of Punisher comics—and make sure it’s one you don’t mind cutting up! Look inside for your favorite panels and cut them out of the pages.
Note: The panels in this how-to are from MARVEL KNIGHTS: THE PUNISHER Vol. 3 #6.
Step Eight: Use the pencil to trace the box on the back side of the panels and cut them to fit with just a little overlap. Cut out enough panels to cover both the sides of the box and the lid.
Step Nine: Use the foam paint brush to coat a thin layer of decoupage glue on the papier-mâché box. Adhere the panels, gently folding them over the top edge and corners as needed.
Step Ten: Repeat on the lid of the box. Add a small amount of glue in the center of the lid, and stick the logo you cut out previously on top of the comic book panel.
Step Eleven: Once all panels securely glued on the papier-mâché, paint another thin layer of decoupage glue on top of the panels and logo. Let all glue dry completely.
Step Twelve: If you expect that the puzzle is going to get a lot of use, spray one last light coat of clear spray paint on the puzzle pieces. (The white acrylic paint may flake or scratch off otherwise.) Let dry.
Once all paint is dry, gently break apart the puzzle pieces to make sure none are glued together.
Your Punisher jigsaw puzzle and box are complete!
