Sibling Snark

After her brother, T’Challa, helped bring Zemo to justice for the murder of their father, King T’Chaka, Wakanda’s Princess Shuri welcomed T’Challa back home alongside their mother, Ramonda. She also quickly and correctly guessed that T’Challa froze while retrieving the Wakandan spy, his beloved Nakia, from her assignment in the field.

Shortly thereafter, the Wakandans held a ceremony to determine the country’s new king. T’Challa was the obvious frontrunner. Not being one for official proceedings or dress, Shuri hoped that the ritual wrapped up in a timely manner, so she could get out of her uncomfortable clothing and adornments and return to her lab. When the leader of the Jabari Tribe, M’Baku challenged T’Challa in combat for the throne of Wakanda, Shuri cheered her brother on and celebrated in his eventual victory, as he cemented his role as the new King.

What Are Those?!

While she has no super human abilities, Shuri is incredibly smart and her scientific talents are practically unparalleled.

Constantly adding to and upgrading the technology that aids her brother on his missions, she develops a new Black Panther suit that can absorb kinetic energy and repurpose it whenever T’Challa chooses, among many other important pieces of equipment she provides him. She is also able to participate in faraway missions from her lab in Wakanda via an advanced remote driving system she has created. When joining a fight in person, Shuri wears vibranium gauntlets capable of firing concentrated energy blasts.

Banned from the Lab

Shuri stands against anyone that would threaten the safety and security of Wakanda. This includes Ulysses Klaue, who once stole vibranium from Wakanda, leaving many dead during his escape. When Klaue resurfaces in Korea, Shuri provides the technology that helps lead to his eventual capture.

When Killmonger takes the Wakandan throne and plans to incite an all-out global war by using the nation’s advanced weapons, Shuri is one of the few that oppose her long-lost cousin from the start—eventually even fighting him when her brother returns to take back his throne.

Interrupted while operating on Vision, Shuri attempts to stave off Thanos’ follower Corvus Glaive, who arrives to take the Mind Stone.

Family Forever

Shuri’s greatest ally is her brother, T’Challa, who she believes can lead their country to greatness after the untimely death of their father. She is also loyal to her mother, Ramonda, and to the people of Wakanda in general. Shuri also gets along well with Okoye, head of the Dora Milaje, and Nakia, T’Challa’s old romantic flame-turned-spy, joining the two in the battle against the usurper Erik “Killmonger” Stevens.

Shuri ends up befriending Everett K. Ross after the CIA operative is brought to Wakanda after he is shot. She operates on him and removes the bullet in his spine, saving his life. Shuri ends up directly enlisting Ross in the fight against Erik Killmonger, entrusting the former pilot with an important part of their plan.

Shuri in lab

At the behest of T’Challa, Shuri lends her great mind to help solve problems for Captain America and his allies, including freeing Bucky Barnes from the hold of the HYDRA programming that controlled him.

When Thanos begins hunting after the Mind Stone on Vision’s forehead, Shuri is crucial to the plan to remove the stone from Vision’s head without killing him.

The Princess of Science

When word reached Wakanda that Ulysses Klaue had been spotted in South Korea, Shuri provided her brother with new equipment for his mission, including stealthy shoes that she aptly called “Sneakers” and a brand-new and upgraded Black Panther suit capable of absorbing kinetic energy and then redistributing it.

While Shuri did not accompany T’Challa, Nakia, and Okoye to South Korea, after Klaue tries to escape the trio, she was able to join in on the chase by remotely driving a car all the way from her lab in Wakanda. She assisted T’Challa specifically, who hitched a ride on the vehicle. Shuri eventually was taken out of the pursuit when the car was destroyed.

T’Challa brought CIA Agent Everett K. Ross back to Wakanda after he was shot protecting Nakia, and Shuri was able to use Wakandan science to quickly heal him. Ross, upon awakening, was shocked to learn Wakanda was actually a technologically-advanced nation and not the developing nation it pretended to be, with Shuri explaining the significance and contribution of vibranium to the nation.

Soon after, Killmonger arrived in Wakanda, revealing himself as T’Challa and Shuri’s cousin, and challenged T’Challa for the throne. During the trial by combat that followed, Shuri watched in horror as T’Challa was defeated and thrown off a waterfall by Killmonger—presumably to his death.

Shuri

With Killmonger seizing the throne, Shuri, Ramonda, Nakia, and Ross fled to the mountains, seeking the assistance of M’Baku. The Jabari leader revealed he had T’Challa, who had miraculously survived the fall. With T’Challa saved by ingesting the Heart Shaped Herb Nakia brought with her, Shuri accompanied her brother, Ross, and Nakia back to Wakanda to stop Killmonger, who intended to send Wakandan weapons out across the world to incite revolutionary uprisings.

Shuri instructed Ross to use her technology to remotely fly a plane from her lab in order to shoot down the departing weapon shipments Killmonger was sending out, while joining the fight herself, alongside Nakia, armed with a pair of high tech vibranium gauntlets. Though she fought valiantly, Shuri was nearly killed by Killmonger. Seeing his sister in jeopardy, T’Challa leapt to her aid and into a final battle that resulted in Killmonger’s death.

With Killmonger defeated, T’Challa was restored as King and decided to finally open up Wakanda to the rest of the world. He took Shuri with him to Oakland, California, where he revealed he was opening the first Wakandan outreach center, and she would head the scientific branch of it.

As time passed, Shuri met with Bucky Barnes; he had been awoken after being cryogenically frozen in Wakanda, as they were able to rid him of his Hydra brainwashing.

Later, with T’Challa’s agreement, several members of the Avengers congregated in Wakanda to make a last stand against Thanos in an effort to stop him from getting the Mind Stone affixed to Vision’s forehead—the last of the Infinity Stones he sought. Shuri was called upon to use her impressive scientific skills to remove the stone from Vision’s head without killing him, something she noted she was capable of doing, but would need as much time as possible to complete.

Shuri using vibranium

While her brother, the Wakandan forces, and the Avengers and their allies battled Thanos’ army, Shuri began to make progress on Vision, with Scarlet Witch standing by, ready to destroy the stone once it was removed. However, when Scarlet Witch raced to the battlefield after seeing her friends in jeopardy, Thanos’ follower, Corvus Glaive, used the opportunity to strike. Though Shuri attempted to stop him with one of her gauntlets, he knocked her unconscious, as Vision rose from his operating table and he and Glaive took the fight outside.

Soon after, Thanos arrived in Wakanda, and after assembling all six Infinity Stones, snapped his fingers and ended half of all life in the universe. While T’Challa was among those who disintegrated away thanks to Thanos, it’s unknown whether Shuri survived or not.
