Biography

From the 18th century, African-born Chandra Ku of the Zulu people is a girl of 13 who rarely speaks, preferring meditation to human company and is often lonely. She becomes a skilled craftsmaker and when her gods gift her the ability to reshape matter, she becomes known as Splice. With god-like powers, she is chosen as one of 12 Young Gods of Earth.

A Young God

When the cosmic beings known as the Celestials arrive on Earth to judge humanity, the gods join forces and select 12 humans who embodied the achievements of the human race in exchange for the world’s salvation. Chandra is one of them and receives godlike powers by her people’s deities. Her skill as a craftswoman becomes legendary in Africa, contributing to her abilities that allow her to manipulate and reshape matter. The Elder Goddess Gaea, or Mother Earth, then presents the 12 to the Celestials as an opportunity to learn from each other. The Celestials accept and with the other representatives, Chandra leaves Earth with the Celestials on their mothership where they employ two alien warriors to teach them the mysteries of the cosmos and in return, the Celestials would learn about humans from them. Chandra trains in combat strategy, learning to use her abilities alongside the other 11, who come to be known as Young Gods

Matter Manipulation

Chandra can psionically animate unliving objects. She can also create weapons, tools, and complicated machines out of raw materials. As part of her godlike powers, her physiology changes as well with an increase in strength, speed, longevity, agility, and reflexes thought to be superhuman.

God-Like Allies and Enemies

handra joins other Young Gods including Bright Sword, Caduceus, Calculus, Daydreamer, Genii, Harvest, Highnote, Mindsinger, Moonstalker, Sea Witch, and Varua to learn from the Celestials. She often engages in training sessions with them.

When superhuman Herbert Wyndham, AKA the High Evolutionary, makes himself known as a threat to humanity, Chandra joins with some of the Young Gods to protect humans. Though the remaining Young Gods enter the fray to stop them from acting as protectors, and they leave after one of them incapacitates the other, not realizing the strength of their powers.

The Meaning of Godhood

As one of the young gods in training, Chandra showed great skills during her training, training conducted by two alien warriors, Juniper and Katos. Though when the High Evolutionary threatened human destiny, Juniper and Katos clashed. While Juniper believed the Young Gods should protect humanity from itself , Katos believed they should be guardians not protectors. Some of the students disagreed with Katos and departed immediately for Earth. Raoul Hernandez, AKA Highnote, teleported himself and Juniper’s charges, including Chandra, to where the High Evolutionary had robots attacking humans and fought alongside Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, to defeat them. However, Katos and his pupils interrupted and fought Chandra and the others, claiming it was the human’s fight to be won or lost. After their fight between each other led to disastrous consequences, they departed for the Celestial spaceship, realizing they did not know the meaning of godhood yet.

Later, to prepare for the Fifth Host of the Celestials on Earth, the Young Gods reappeared on Earth and battled the Eternals, immortal heroes and guardians of Earth. After Young Gods Moonstalker and Harvest disabled Makkari of the Eternals, Splice and Calculus explained to Makkari that they sought to merge all of humanity into one and place it into the shell they had constructed for it, thus creating a new Celestial named Terran, all to gain the Celestials’ attention. They called it humanity’s ascension. The Eternals thought them arrogant fanatics and defeated them.
