He’s Only Got One Name

A student of the occult, Wong trained with the Masters of the Mystic Arts, a league of sorcerers committed to protecting the Earthly dimensions from mystical threats. They operate under the Sorcerer Supreme, also known as The Ancient One. The Masters of the Mystic Arts use magic, drawing power from alternate dimensions with respect to natural laws, to face threats from dark entities who enter their universe with malicious intent.

When once-renowned surgeon Doctor Stephen Strange arrives at Kamar-Taj seeking a cure for his mangled, unsteady hands, The Ancient One tasks Wong with introducing Strange to the world of magic and mystic arts and aiding his studies. With the threat of zealot Kaecilius and ruler of the Dark Dimension Dormammu resolved, Wong joins Doctor Strange as a Master of the New York Sanctum.

Mystic Guardian

Wong is one of the most knowledgeable masters in Kamar-Taj possessing a powerful mastery of sorcery. As like all Masters of the Mystic Arts, he is able to shape and manipulate Eldritch Magic, invoking weapons and other objects via spells, cast illusions, and astral projection. With mystical artifacts, Wong is able to harness magic such as the Wand of Watoomb or the Sling Ring, which allows him to travel across multiple dimensions of the Multiverse.

In addition to his mastery of knowledge and magic, Wong is a master martial artist, able to protect the Sanctums and other dimensions from the likes of the Zealots and Thanos’ followers. Wong is one of the few with knowledge of each Infinity Stone, and what it means to all life and existence in the universe if all six Infinity Stones are reunited.

Dark Disillusions and Masters

Like all Masters of the Mystic Arts, Wong safeguards Earth and its dimensions from dark forces who threaten its existence in its pursuits of evil.

Wong’s greatest threat is another sorcerer, and a former member of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, Kaecilius, who formed the Zealots with other former students. Kaecilius and the Zealots worship Dormammu, the Destroyer of Worlds, who want to bring the Dark Dimension to Earth. When Kaecilius and his followers kill the Kamar-Taj Librarian in order to steal the Book of Cagliostro, Wong becomes the keeper of ancient tomes.

Thanos and his mission to possess all six Infinity Stones pose a direct threat to Wong. After all, Wong took an oath to protect not only Earth, but also the mystical artifact entrusted to Doctor Strange, the Eye of Agamotto, which houses the Time Stone. Wong faces two of Thanos’ followers, Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw, during their invasion of Earth in pursuit of the Time Stone.

Strange Allies

Wong joins all Masters of the Mystic Arts as warriors against dark forces and guardians of Earth. This mission joins Wong with The Ancient One and other masters such as Sol Rama, Daniel Drumm, Master Minoru, as well as Karl Mordo, before he turns his back on the Masters.

As the Kamar-Taj Librarian, Wong aids Doctor Strange in his studies of the mystic arts, even granting him access to The Ancient One’s private collection after witnessing Strange’s innate abilities and comprehension. Becoming one of Strange’s strongest allies, Wong allows him to inherit the Eye of Agamotto once he masters his powers and joins him as a master at the New York Sanctum.

Following the threat of Thanos’ pursuit of the Infinity Stones, Wong and Doctor Strange also ally with Avengers Iron Man and Bruce Banner, following Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw’s arrival in New York City.

The Master’s Tome

Mystic Arts Master Wong takes the post as Kamar-Taj Librarian after insane zealot Kaecilius killed his predecessor in pursuit of the ancient tome, the Book of Cagliostro, which would grant him the knowledge and spell to summon Dormammu. After The Ancient One welcomed Stephen Strange as a student at the Kamar-Taj, the stern and unflinching master aided Strange as an instructor in his studies.

Wong and Doctor Strange

Initially hostile and cautious following the betrayal of former Master Kaecilius, Wong monitored Strange’s progression with the mystic arts, allowing him access to The Ancient One’s private collections. However, when Strange overstepped and tested a spell from the forbidden books, Wong and Master Mordo, cautious of his quick advancements, reprimanded him for breaking natural law.

In an effort to merge Earth with the Dark Dimension, Kaecilius and the Zealots began to destroy the three Sanctum Sanctorums, located in New York, London, and Hong Kong. The Masters of the Mystic Arts set up the Sanctums to keep Dormammu from Earth. After the fall of the London Sanctum, and The Ancient One no longer in action, Wong rose up to aid Doctor Strange in preventing the end of the world. With the Wand of Watoomb, Wong defended the Hong Kong Sanctum.

During the battle at the Hong Kong Sanctum, Wong was killed and the Sanctum destroyed, allowing Dormammu to consume Earth into the Dark Dimension. Defying the laws of nature and using the Eye of Agamotto, Strange reversed time, banishing Dormammu and his acolytes, and ultimately, reviving Wong and Mordo. With the apocalypse averted and Strange now the Sorcerer Supreme, Wong revealed the Eye of Agamotto housed an Infinity Stone, and that they needed to be ready to defend a vulnerable Earth from all who seek to destroy it. Wong and Strange were appointed protectors of the New York Sanctum.

Following Thanos’ aggressive pursuit to acquire all six Infinity Stones, the Avenger Hulk was sent hurtling to Earth and crashed into the New York Sanctum. Returning to form, Bruce Banner warned Wong and Strange about Thanos’ impending arrival, forcing the sorcerers to summon Tony Stark to the Sanctum. Wong revealed the history of the Infinity Stones—how the Big Bang created six stones containing the universe’s elemental energies: time, power, reality, soul, space and mind.

Shortly after Banner revealed Thanos’ mission, two of Thanos’ followers, Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian, arrived on Earth to collect the Time Stone from Doctor Strange. Standing alongside Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Bruce Banner, and eventually Spider-Man, Wong protected downtown Manhattan from Earth’s intruders. With Ebony Maw’s capture of Doctor Strange and the Time Stone, Wong returned to the Sanctum, as it now stood unprotected.

At this time, it is unknown if Wong survived when Thanos’ eliminated half the universe once he came into possession of all six Infinity stones.
