Step Into the Next Spider-Man, Venom, Carnage Crossover in ‘Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral’ #1 Preview

Writers Joe Kelly and Al Ewing tease what’s in store for Spider-Man and Venom as their paths collide in ‘Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral’ #1.

There’s a new killer in town — and he’s after Spidey, Venom, and everyone else in between!

This February, brace for the epic Spider-Man, Venom, and Carnage crossover event, beginning in the pages of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN/VENOM: DEATH SPIRAL #1. Penned by Joe Kelly (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN), Al Ewing (VENOM), and Charles Soule (EDDIE BROCK: CARNAGE), and featuring art by Jesús Saiz (EDDIE BROCK: CARNAGE), the issue brings our heroes (and anti-heroes) together for the first time following massive changes to their respective status quos. Spider-Man was lost in space?! Mary Jane is Venom?!? Eddie Brock is bonded to Carnage?!?!

The inciting incident that sets Peter, Eddie, and MJ on a collision course? Carnage learned a terrible secret and a new super-powered serial killer, Torment, is on the loose. Superstar writers Joe Kelly and Al Ewing tease what’s ahead in the DEATH SPIRAL crossover.

Check out the preview for the next Spider-Man, Venom, and Carnage epic below!

MARVEL.com: How do Peter and MJ enter this story?

KELLY: Peter’s frazzled! He's just barely back from his cosmic adventure and is trying to piece his life back together after Ben Reilly ran it into the ground. (Or did he?) So Peter's already on high alert when he hears a message from his old-not-really-a-friend, Eddie Brock, with ominous portent.

EWING: Because it was Ben Reilly who MJ "confessed" to way back in Amazing SPIDER-MAN (2025) #9, she thinks Peter Parker knows her secret identity — but, of course, he doesn't. That was always a ticking bomb waiting to go off, and when Spidey goes to get answers from the person he thinks is in the Venom suit... well, fireworks ensue.

MARVEL.com: Peter and MJ have a lot to catch up on (he's been in space, she's now Venom). What can you tease about this reunion?

EWING: It's a little awkward! And very much not under ideal circumstances; with a serial killer on the loose, they might not get much time to clear the air. But then again, maybe a shared adventure is what these crazy kids need to move forward again.

MARVEL.com: Spider-Man has fought Eddie Brock before as Venom. How will he fare against Eddie Brock as Carnage?

KELLY: I'm sure it will be totally fine. Easy, even. I mean, with months of lead time to plan, Carnage couldn't possibly have the upper hand... can he?

MARVEL.com: Why was Jesús Saiz the right artist to kick off the DEATH SPIRAL crossover?

KELLY: Jesús really nails the darkness in this story. We're in horror territory and the body count is shockingly high! Jesús gives weight to those deaths. At the same time, he's also got a great sense of humor, which may sound wrong when talking about a serial killer, but it's so very right when dealing with a sicko like TORMENT.

EWING: Jesús is great at defining all three points of our triangle of protagonists — he's got a real talent for action and character drama, so it's great seeing him come over from EDDIE BROCK: CARNAGE to take on the rest of the Spider-cast as they get together.
