Spoiler Warning: Tread with caution, the article below contains spoilers for Captain America (2025) #11!

Steve Rogers was once a man out of time. Now, he’s a man in Hell. In the final pages of Captain America (2025) #11 by Chip Zdarsky and Valerio Schiti, the star-spangled Avenger put his life on the line to protect civilians from the Red Hulk’s rampage on their city. With his mortal body in a coma, Steve Rogers now awakens in Hell, face-to-face with none other than Victor Von Doom in Captain America (2025) #12.

In One World Under Doom (2025), Doctor Doom ruled with an iron fist until Earth’s Mightiest Heroes came together to vanquish him. But where did the once Sorcerer Supreme disappear to? He’s been in Hell, biding his time and preparing to wage war against its infernal overlord, Mephisto. As Captain America comes tumbling down to Hell, Victor Von Doom now finds himself with a champion to fight Hell’s king.

Doctor Doom casts a long shadow over Zdarsky and Schiti’s Captain America (2025) series, with the first arc delving into Steve’s first run-in with the Latverian monarch. Now, in the upcoming third arc, both Steve Rogers and Victor Von Doom find themselves trapped in torturous territory where they must put their differences aside. “They’re both in deep, deep trouble. But the enemy of my enemy...” teases Zdarsky.

The enemy in question is, of course, Mephisto, who has a fraught relationship with both players now in his domain, to say the least. “When I was laying out the larger story, Hell seemed like the logical next step. I think people will see the reasoning shortly and how it ties into the themes we’ve been developing for Steve,” says Zdarsky on the decision to send Captain America to Hell. “[It] feels very black and white, but it’s not necessarily the case here, especially through the eyes of a man who most definitely doesn’t belong there.”

And how does the world react to Captain America being in a coma? Armageddon,” simply states Zdarsky. While Captain America and Doctor Doom team up in Hell, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assemble to avenge their fallen friend, putting them on a collision course with the Red Hulk in Avengers: Armageddon #1.
