Didja Know... The Agents of Wakanda

Get some downright delightful details from across the merry Marvel Multiverse!

Didja Know digs into the fun facts, strange stories, and divine details that helped build the hallowed halls of the House of Ideas!

Who do Earth’s Mightiest Heroes call when they need back-up? The Agents of Wakanda, that’s who! And who’s that, you ask? Well, that’s what we’re here to tell ya, True Believers!

Making their big bow in the all-new AVENGERS #12, the Agents of Wakanda act as a kind of support crew to the Avengers. They're a group of exciting experts assembled by none other than the Black Panther—and we know you know who that is!

AVENGERS #12

There’s going to be more than a few of the Agents running around, but we thought we’d slip you a few facts about a titanic trio of ‘em to get you started. Good? All right then, let’s go!

Didja Know… Gorilla-Man’s going to live forever?

We have it on pretty good authority, amigo, that when Ken Hale ended up killing the legendary “gorilla man” many moons ago, he not only became a gorilla himself, but an immortal one!

Hale hailed from a 1954 mag called MEN’S ADVENTURES, one of those great grab-bags of terror tales from back in the day, but he took on a whole ‘nuther life many years later when he reappeared in the Modern Marvel Age of Comics. As Gorilla-Man, he can do whatever a gorilla can, except even better! He’s smart and savvy with weapons, not just hairy and scary like a real gorilla—plus he’s supposed to live forever. Not bad work if you can get it!

Gorilla-Man’s really made the rounds in the last several years, playing patty-cake with such scintillating superstars like Wolverine, the X-Men, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Howling Commandos, and the Agents of Atlas. Now he’s associated with the Avengers, and let us tell you: that’s no monkeying around!

Didja Know… Ka-Zar was raised by a sabretooth tiger?

Ka-Zar started out as the son of a British couple who got lost in a faraway place and sadly left their boy to be raised by the woolly wildlife therein. Kevin Plunder—that’s Ka-Zar’s real name—became child to the proud parent Zabu, who was a real, honest-to-goodness sabretooth tiger.

Now, before you get all weepy-eyed at ol’ Kevin’s misfortune, let us remind you he grew up real good. Ka-Zar became the top-dog of a neck of the woods called the Savage Land, and in X-MEN #10 made his first contact with the outside world, namely the band of merry mutants of the same moniker as the magazine. Zabu stayed at his side through thick and thin, a constant companion who watched Ka-Zar’s back.

And look at the little Plunder now—he’s fought alongside Daredevil, Spider-Man, the Hulk, and a bevy of costumed co-stars, and made his way all the way up to the Avengers! Who says swingin’ by vines will get you nowhere?

Didja Know… The Wasp has sported over 400 different costumes?

Listen, don’t quote on that number, but if you ask certain people they’ll tell you it ain’t too far off, bunky! How? Why? Where does she find that much spandex? Those are good questions, but maybe only the Wasp herself knows for sure.

It all started way back in TALES TO ASTONISH #44, when Janet van Dyne met scientist Hank Pym and a match was made in an ant farm. As Ant-Man, Pym needed a partner and Jan filled the bill, so the Wasp went a flyin’ and lo, the costume parade began! Seemed like every time readers glommed onto her, the Wasp was showing off a new look—in the 1960's alone, she sported nearly two-dozen different costumes!

Some of her artists loved this about Jan. When Jolly George Perez became the Avengers’ artist back in the 1970's, he knuckled down and broke a plethora of pencils dream up delightful duds for the diminutive damsel, and to this day some of his designs are detailed as many a frantic fan’s favorites. Time will only tell how many new looks the Wasp will wing it through as an Agent of Wakanda, but between you and us, we can’t wait to see!
