Fire up Star-Lord’s jet boots and prepare for a wild ride with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy! Thanks to Senior Narrative Director Mary DeMarle (she/her) and her team at Eidos-Montréal, you’re in for one super fun and legit hilarious cosmic adventure. I mean, just look at Cosmo the Space Dog!!

DeMarle is a true collaborator. We’d trick-or-treat at her house. She’s a Woman of Marvel. And we had some questions for her.

We asked. She answered.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Spend about 10 to 20 minutes convincing myself to get out of bed. Then I feed my cat and do 20 minutes of yoga.

What are you totally into right now?

Binge-watching ER on Amazon Prime. I saw it when it first aired, and am amazed how well it stands up today.

How would you describe your job at an elementary school career day?

I spend my day thinking about characters, stories, and worlds for people to play in. Then I work with a lot of creative artists, writers, designers, and programmers to bring these stories to life.

Dracula or Frankenstein?

Dracula.

When I was a kid I was obsessed with…?

Nancy Drew and ghost stories.

Got any superstitions?

I have been known to knock on wood a lot to ward off the bad things.

Scary movie marathon or apple picking & apple cider?

Apple picking and apple cider.

The key to collaboration is…?

Listening.

What are you proud of?

My writing team. We started working on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as strangers but, much like the Guardians themselves, came together as a family and helped each other shine.

Superpower of choice?

Charisma.

Better to ask permission or forgiveness?

Forgiveness.

Greatest Canadian delicacy: maple syrup or poutine?

Poutine.

The video game that started it all…?

Myst. (Although, if we’re including arcade games, it would have to be Gauntlet.)

Which Marvel Super Hero gets the most candy from your house at Halloween?

Rachel Summers.

Follow up: if we ring your doorbell on Halloween, what candy will we get?

Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins.

Who makes you laugh?

Trevor Noah and/or Jon Stewart. Also, my cat, Max.

Must have item when writing?

Glass of ice water. It keeps me focused.

Roller coaster or merry-go-round?

Roller coaster.

Who has your back in an alien invasion: Rocket, Groot or Cosmo the Space Dog?

Groot.

Mantra or quote that keeps you going?

Just take it one day at a time, one moment at a time.

Best thing about being a Woman of Marvel?

I get to work with a lot of really creative, really cool people!
