Just Released: Full 18 Minute A-Day Prologue Gameplay Footage From 'Marvel's Avengers'

Plus the hosts of 'Marvel Let's Play' react to the footage!

To kick off gamescom 2019, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix has released the full, nearly 20-minute A-Day Prologue gameplay footage from the highly-anticipated Marvel's Avengers, a story-driven, third-person action-adventure game.

In this tutorial below, the Avengers must defend San Francisco after a mysterious attack threatens the safety of the city.

Between the lightning strikes, repulsor blasts, ground pounds, shield throws, and spy tech, Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor make quite the team.

The majority of the video takes place on the famous Golden Gate Bridge where our heroes are forced to spring into action after the festivities of A-Day, a celebration for the unveiling of a new hi-tech Avengers Headquarters on the west coast along with their own helicarrier, is interrupted.

As the melee ensues, our heroes break off to cover more ground. Each Avenger harnesses a unique set of powers. Witness Thor pummel enemies down with mighty force as he wields his Mjolnir as well as call upon lightning to strike. Iron Man takes to the skies to fend off airborne enemies using a combo of repulsor blasts, homing missiles, and his Unibeam. No foe stands a chance once Bruce Banner transforms into the unstoppable Hulk and begins smashing. Meanwhile Black Widow has to take on the man responsible for all the destruction and chaos, Taskmaster, with a combo of gadgets, tech, and acrobatic moves, as Captain America has to assess what's happening on the Helicarrier with melee combos and his trusty shield. However, they all realize too late that Taskmaster was merely a distraction.

The action culminates with Captain America making the ultimate sacrifice. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

In the five years since the tragic events of A-Day, a new evil threat has emerged: Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.). A longstanding threat in the Marvel Universe, A.I.M. believes that science, not Super Heroes, will save the world. Players will be tasked with reassembling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to take on A.I.M. in Marvel’s Avengers. The narrative will unfold over multiple years, with every new Super Hero and region delivered at no additional cost if you own the core game.

At the top of the article, watch the hosts of Marvel Let's Play react to the newly released gameplay!

The tutorial level and prologue for Marvel's Avengers give you a taste of what's to come once the game ships on May 15, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One X, PC, and Stadia!

Players will reassemble and rebuild their Avengers roster in an original, cinematic single-player campaign, then battle solo or online alongside friends in new missions around the globe. They can also customize Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and harness their unique powers to defend the world from escalating threats for years to come.
