Io is a magic bear summoned by a magical mask and is part of the dynamic Super Hero duo with Dan Bi, AKA Crescent, a Tae Kwon Do prodigy. Io finds Crescent to be brave and bonds with her. Together they vow to protect one another and fight for justice!
Mighty Protector
The magic spirit bear is a 12-foot tall glowing “half-moon” bear. Crescent names the spirit Io after Jupiter’s moon with the highest density. Io is summoned and controlled by Crescent’s enchanted mask.
When the scheming sorceress Morgan le Fay sends her troops to retrieve the enchanted mask that houses Io, they are met by a young girl, Dan Bi. In holding the mask to her chest, she prays for protection and Io emerges as if answering her prayers, and drives the soldiers away with a giant roar.
Io is impressed by Dan Bi’s bravery and Dan Bi is emboldened by Io’s strength. They form a bond and vow to protect each other from those that wish to harm them. With their newfound strength and determination, they embark on a quest to find Dan Bi’s father—a quest that will ultimately lead them into the dark and dangerous shadows of Morgan le Fay’s reach.
Super-Strength
Io mimics Crescent’s fighting movements when she wears a bear mask, and presumably can copy the movements of anyone that wears the mask. Io can phase in and out of spirit form and use physical mass to protect Crescent. Io can absorb energy attacks rendering them useless. Io also has super-strength and a super-roar.
In addition to Io’s roar, Io is also able to speak. Io cannot be burned by flames and is able to sting Sindr’s forces should they come into contact with the bear.
Powerful Foes
Morgan le Fay sends a group of armed soldiers to obtain an enchanted mask from an antique dealer’s home and comes upon his daughter who unintentionally invoked the spirit inside of it—Io the magic bear. Io drove the soldiers away with a roar.
Sindr, the Queen of Cinders and Muspelheim, and her armies overwhelm Crescent and Io’s home of Seoul. With Crescent, Io defends the city and its people against the growing threat.
Super-Powered Allies
Io shares a unique bond with Dan Bi and acts as her strong avatar. Together, they fight the forces of evil and are sometimes joined by Ami Han, AKA White Fox, of South Korea’s National Intelligence Service and Seol Hee, AKA Luna Snow.
They later join the new Agents of Atlas to fight and defeat Sindr who attacks the Pacific Rim. Agents include Amadeus Cho, AKA Brawn; the Master of Kung Fu, Shang-Chi; and Cindy Moon, AKA Silk. The team is led by former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo and current headmaster of the Pan-Asian School for the Unusually Gifted. Io and Crescent also partner with Lin Lie, AKA Sword Master, Lei Ling, AKA Aero, Pearl Pangan, AKA Wave, and the Hawaiian Goddess of Fire Tūtū Pele, AKA Pele.
Hear Io Roar
Based out of Seoul, South Korea, Io is summoned when Sindr’s forces attack the city. Crescent and Io battled Sindr’s Goblins of Msupelheim alongside other super-powered people White Fox, of South Korea’s National Intelligence Service and Luna Snow. When the new Agents of Atlas’ de facto leader Amadeus Cho appeared, Io and Crescent punched him back, thinking him a part of the threat. Brawn teleported them to a safer location but left Luna behind who was captured. They arrived to the rest of the Atlas team where they met the other agents, Shang-Chi and Silk, as well as their leader, former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo and current headmaster of the Pan-Asian School for the Unusually Gifted. Woo encouraged the team to work together. They do so and successfully tricked Sindr’s Goblins of Msupelheim, freeing Luna. The group was then joined by other Pan-Asian heroes Sword Master, Aero, Wave, and Pele, the Hawaiian Goddess of Fire.
Io is next summoned when half the team joined the Monkey King of the Ascendants in Beijing to train for the fight.
With training and working as a team, the agents fought Sindr head to head and defeated her, sending her armies back through a portal known as the Black Bifrost, akin to the Asgardian Rainbow Bridge.
