A warrior of Wakanda, Zawadi is a fierce fighter with the power of the heart-shaped herb granting her heightened senses. She uses her abilities to hunt monsters at home and abroad, joining a group of Monster Hunters from around the globe.
Wakandan Warrior
Hailing from Wakanda, Zawadi grows up to develop many skills and become a warrior for her nation. Her name in Swahili means “precious gift.” In the 1950s, Zawadi joins the Monster Hunters to protect the Earth from beasts and bedeviling beings.
Superhuman Senses
Zawadi ingests the Wakandan heart-shaped herb, a tradition reserved for Wakanda’s Black Panther, and gains superhuman senses, increased strength, agility, speed, and stamina. She is also a skilled hunter and hand-to-hand combatant. She often wields a spear or knife.
Monster Hunters and Monstrous Enemies
Zawadi joins Ulysses Bloodstone, Anthony Ludgate Druid, AKA Doctor Druid, and Jake Curtiss (later revealed to be the Eternal Makkari) and together they are the Monster Hunters! Zawadi feels less than trusting of Druid and Curtiss at first, but they prove their metal, and especially so when Curtiss comes clean about his true identity. They go up against Gorgilla, a massive gorilla, who then becomes their ally and the Deviant Kro, warlord of the Deviant armies.
A Hunter’s History
When Zawadi came upon a tyrannosaurus rex attacking a man with a rifle, she leapt onto the rex’s back and stabbed him through the neck with a spear. The rex threw her off and the man caught her. The rex scampered off and Zawadi learned that the man was the monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone who was tracking Grottu, the King of the Insects, in the mountains of Wakanda. They had no luck finding the beast, so Zawadi accompanied him to New York to join with Jake Curtiss, and Doctor Druid to seek out Grottu and form the Monster Hunters. While they swapped monster-hunting stories, Zawadi sensed another presence in the room and sure enough, she uncovered a spy hiding under a grate in the floor. Druid sends him on his way with a bit of hypnosis and Curtiss invites them on a hunt to track down the molten Man-Thing. Zawadi joins after Ulysses showed interest but she is wary of whether to trust Curtiss and Druid. But their plans get interrupted with an attack by Gorgilla, sensed by the Druid. Zawadi attacked Gorgilla from above with a stun spear, but then the group found themselves whisked away to safety by an unknown speedster. The group eventually stopped Gorgilla and returned him to the wild. In the process, Curtiss had disappeared and then reappeared having detained some spies. They realized he was the speedster and it was eventually revealed that he was Makkari, an Eternal.
Zawadi and the Monster Hunters discovered that Gorgilla was being controlled by Kro, a Deviant and enemy of the Eternals. Together they faced off other monsters, with Gorgilla as an ally, and defeated Kro. The group late added the Atlantean/human hybrid Aquaria Neptunia, AKA Namora, to their roster, and joined the Super Hero group First Line to prevent a Skrull named Zuhn from recovering his lost starship.
