Biography

Originating in the Krona system, the Kronan people are rock-like warriors who desire to expand their Empire across the cosmos.

Someone To Lava

While the origins of the Kronan people are a mystery in the grand sense, we do know that they function as a military dictatorship, whose attempts to expand their Empire have met with little success. It is also clear how this all-male species reproduces. When one finds a partner they want to raise a rockling with, they join hands and plunge them into lava flows from Mount Krona for several days punctuated by songs and fasting. At the point when their hands crack apart, they reveal a baby Kronan. In the modern age, the Kronans establish an outpost on Iapetus, a moon of Saturn, earning them the nickname “Stone Men of Saturn.”

Heavy Hitters

Physiologically, Kronans' bodies are made of a silicon-based substance that makes them look like living rock. Their stone-like hides offer them a great deal of protection, making them highly resistant to cold and heat. Kronans consume sedimentary rocks, such as coal and shale for sustenance, and have no apparent biological need for food, water, oxygen, or sunlight. WIthin an Earth-like environment, the average full-grown Kronan possesses great strength, able to lift approximately 100 tons, and has a life expectancy that’s measured in centuries. Their tear glads appear to produce a red blood-like fluid. Kronans can place themselves in suspended animation in which they retain a limited sense of their environment.

Some Kronans dedicate themselves to battle and are some of the most durable warriors around. They are virtually unkillable unless their bodies are shattered or ground to dust.

The Krona system also dedicates itself to scientific advancement.  The Kronans’ technological discoveries include ray guns, advanced image projectors, atomic force fields and Mechano-Monster and Mekkanoid attack robots. The Kronan civilization is space-capable. They utilize Gravitrons that allow for the manipulation of gravity, which they have used in their space exploration and conquest programs.

Massein Kronans can create and project lava from their bodies, but need to be close to the ground to replenish their resources.

Status Unknown

It's unclear exactly what place Krona holds in the greatest tapestry of intergalactic relationships. While many of their people have acted as soldiers in various battles, they have not been seen as either allies or enemies to other well-known groups like the Skrulls, Kree or Shi'Ar. Many Kronans have come to see Thor Odinson, AKA Thor, as an enemy, some blaming him for their many years adrift in space.

Ready to Rock and Roll

The Kronans developed Gravitron technology, which allowed them to control gravity. They used it to begin exploring space. A small scout group landed on Earth around 3000 BC, where a time-traveling Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America, helped Gilgamesh fend off the invaders. At some point in time, another group of Kronans were transported through time and space to the Benhazin system where they were subjugated by Imperial Wakanda. The rock people were used to unlock the secrets of Vibranium.

In the modern era, a fleet was sent to test how easy it would be to conquer Earth. After planning from a staging ground on Saturn, a crew—which included brothers Korg and Margus as well as Gorr—made landfall. The Kronans reveled in their increased strength thanks to the planet's lower gravity. They decided to kill any humans who stumbled upon them, but were then discovered by Nato forces who sent jet fighters after the invaders. The aliens distracted them with a life-like image of a dragon and used other technological advancements to best the humans. However, they had not counted on the arrival of Thor, who began smashing away with his mighty hammer Mjolnir, even managing to chip some of their silicate exteriors. Thinking that all humans must be as powerful as the Odinson, the Kronans fled the planet.

One of the ships from the Earth fleet suffered a damaged engine and crashed on an asteroid. Their radio was damaged so they could not call for help. As a means of self preservation, they put themselves in a kind of suspended animation and remained there for years until Thor, Sif and the Warriors Three happened upon them. Dusting themselves off, the Kronans attacked in hopes of taking their ship and going home. When the Kronan leader attempted to use a Gravitron to destroy the Asgardians, it was damaged and blew up the asteroid. Thor and the others escaped, leaving the stone men behind.

A group of Kronans was sent to attack Thor and Herbert Wyndham, AKA High Evolutionary, by Nobilus and the New Immortals, but were easily bested. Around this time a Kronan named Zardock joined the Starblasters, but was killed by Perun. Meanwhile, the rest of that original Earth-bound fleet continued having trouble getting home. Eventually, they got what they needed and were just about to travel back to the Krona system when the lead ship flew too close to the Great Portal which dumped their ship on Sakaar. While Margus and most of the other survivors were immediately captured, Korg survived on his own for two years before the Imperials got the better of him. He was thrown into gladiatorial combat where he was forced to fight his own people to the death alongside Bruce Banner, AKA Hulk. He and Hulk became Warbound, which led to the overthrow of Sakaar and a trip to Earth, where he remains.

The space-pirate Nebula hired another group of Kronans and other mercenaries to aid her in bringing about Ragnarok. Many were destroyed by Throg. A Massein Kronan named Phyllis had been imprisoned on L'ar Gath Five where he allied himself with an evil Reed Richards, AKA The Maker. Phyllis could expel lava from his mouth and hands. During a fight with the Future Foundation, the Maker blew up the ship. While the heroes saved themselves, it remains unclear what happened to Phyllis.
