Get to Know Monica Rambeau

Whether she’s Captain Marvel, Photon, Pulsar, or Spectrum, she’s a force of power and light.

Do you know Monica Rambeau? Sure you might know her, but do you really know how she got her powers, became the first female Captain Marvel, and subsequently joined the Avengers? Unless you can answer all of that, then you don’t know Monica Rambeau just yet!

Monica got her start as a New Orleans harbor patrol woman who wanted to become a captain someday. After she was passed over for a promotion she decided to go rogue and teamed up with her grandfather’s old work associate, Professor Andre LeClaire. He had a task for her: reclaim an old scientific research center on interdimensional energy which was currently under the control of a dictator working for Roxon.

When the plan was foiled, in a last ditch effort Monica tried to destroy an energy coil herself and instead sent extra-dimensional energy coursing through her and transformed her into a being of pure light and energy. The blast sent her flying and luckily she landed in a Mardi Gras costume shop — what better place to find a quick costume?

Taking on the name Captain Marvel, Monica headed to New York City hoping to find the Avengers. Spider-Man introduced her to the Super Hero group and they helped her learn how to harness her powers and wield energy blasts, along with flying at the speed of light. She then joined the Avengers and fought alongside them, until she was injured and returned home to New Orleans to recover.

But that’s not the end of Monica! After recovering she comes back better than ever. Find out what other monikers she’s taken on and groups she’s joined in the video above!
