Jeff the Land Shark's Greatest Hits (So Far)
From his villainous origins to his mischief making among the Avengers, revisit a few of Jeff the Land Shark's best moments in the Marvel Universe so far.
Jeff the Land Shark may have emerged from a villain’s failed plans, but the land shark charmed his way into the hearts of the Avengers and the rest of the Marvel Universe after befriending heroes like Deadpool and Hawkeye (Kate Bishop). Despite his amicable nature, though, he isn’t afraid to use his razor-sharp jaws to take a big bite out of his rivals. Whether he’s hanging out with the Pet Avengers or stealing some of the most powerful objects in the universe, Jeff has proven himself to be one of Marvel’s brightest stars on land and in water.
Now, let’s take a closer look at Jeff the Land Shark, just as he dives into an all-new adventure for JEFF WEEK INFINITY COMIC (2025) by Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru. From his most adorable moments to his most powerful feats, this is how Jeff earned his place among the Marvel Universe’s greatest heroes.
JEFF AND THE LAND SHARKS
Jeff debuted alongside a small army of land sharks in WEST COAST AVENGERS (2018) #7 by Kelly Thompson and Daniele Di Nicuolo. To take revenge on a society that rejected him, M.O.D.O.K. engineered the land sharks and unleashed them on Los Angeles. However, Hawkeye (Clint Barton), Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), and their newly assembled West Coast Avengers managed to stop him. After the other land sharks returned to the ocean, Gwenpool—an interdimensional Marvel fan who became a self-aware hero—found Jeff and adopted him.
Despite the team’s initial hesitation about him, Jeff won the hearts of the West Coast Avengers with his charm. In addition to helping this short-lived team tackle threats like vampires, Jeff grew particularly close to Gwen and Kate, who became two of his most enduring caretakers.
JEFF AND DEADPOOL
Shortly after the West Coast Avengers disbanded, Jeff met Deadpool and a monster-hunter named Elsa Bloodstone. When he killed the Monster King as part of a job, Deadpool became the King of the Monsters and took over a small civilization of giant creatures that settled on Staten Island in DEADPOOL (2019) #1 by Kelly Thompson and Chris Bachalo. Knowing she faced an uncertain future, Gwenpool left Jeff in Deadpool’s care.
As one of Deadpool’s closest monster friends, Jeff helped defeat Kraven the Hunter and other threats, while Wade tried to cheer up the land shark by pulling such stunts as dressing up like Gwenpool. On a trip to the mutant nation Krakoa, Jeff met the X-Men and charmed Magik and the White Queen. Jeff and Deadpool also saved Elsa from an interdimensional monster called the Bone Beast together.
JEFF’S DOLPHIN COSTUME
Once Jeff resumed living with Kate Bishop, he began stirring up trouble all around the Marvel Universe. As his light-hearted adventures began in IT’S JEFF INFINITY COMIC (2021) #1 by Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru, Jeff went to a pool party with heroes like the Avengers. Even though several heroes crowded around Jeff when he entered the party, others were too busy in the pool to notice his arrival. After Jeff jumped into the water, he unintentionally scared the heroes out of the pool with his fin.
When Jeff wanted to swim with a group of surfers at the beach in IT’S JEFF INFINITY COMIC (2021) #3 by Thomspon and Gurihiru, he remembered what happened at the pool party and took some precautions. The land shark went to a nearby costume store and bought a dolphin costume that disguised his shark fin as a harmless dolphin’s fin, allowing him to frolic freely in the waves with the surfers.
JEFF VS. THE AVENGERS
Even though Jeff charmed his way into the hearts of the Avengers, he still caused plenty of trouble for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, mainly by borrowing Captain America’s shield without permission. While playing in the snow with several young Avengers, Jeff stole Steve Rogers’ shield to use it as a sled in IT’S JEFF INFINITY COMIC (2021) #4 by Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru.
Not long after that, Jeff stole Captain America’s shield again in IT’S JEFF INFINITY COMIC (2021) #7 by Thompson and Gurihiru. He also stole Kate Bishop’s arrows, Spider-Man (Miles Morales)’s mask, Falcon’s wings, Black Widow’s gauntlets, and Doctor Strange’s Eye of Agamotto. When the heroes started looking for their things, they turned to Deadpool, who instantly pointed towards the land shark. Using his borrowed weapons, Jeff handed the heroes an embarrassing defeat.
JEFF’S TUMMY TROUBLE
Jeff the Land Shark has a big mouth and an even bigger appetite. Like many sharks, Jeff is willing to eat anything, even if he can’t digest it. But after he ate all the food in Kate Bishop’s refrigerator, Jeff experienced a little bit of tummy trouble in IT’S JEFF INFINITY COMIC (2021) #10 by Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru.
Once he fell ill, Kate rushed Jeff to an animal hospital. As the veterinarian treated Jeff, he x-rayed his stomach, where he found a hot dog, a slice of pizza, a cheeseburger, a license plate, and an Infinity Gauntlet with a complete set of Infinity Stones. Although this upset Hawkeye, Jeff quickly recovered his appetite. When Kate tried to lure Jeff into a new playhouse, he responded by trapping her in it and relaxing with a healthy plate of sliced fruit and a fruity drink.
GIANT-SIZE JEFF THE LAND SHARK
Even though Jeff packs a big bite, he is pretty small for a land shark. At the Avengers Research Facility, though, Jeff underwent a massive growth spurt in IT’S JEFF INFINITY COMIC (2021) #20 by Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru. While snooping around a laboratory filled with experiments, Jeff consumed a substance that shrank him down to the size of an ant. When an escaped ant found the tiny Jeff, the two animals fought until they fell into another pool of chemicals.
After a moment, Jeff and the ant both transformed into giant, kaiju-like creatures as tall as buildings. As the city beneath them crumbled under their footsteps, they continued to fight until the Hulk intervened with another chemical injection. Once both animals returned to their normal sizes, Jeff helped the ant back to his colony, and the two parted ways amicably.
SAVING DOCTOR STRANGE
Jeff went through another growth spurt while visiting Doctor Strange in the Sanctum Sanctorum in IT’S JEFF INFINITY COMIC (2021) #35 by Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru. Despite Strange’s efforts to stop him, Jeff licked some strange mystical substances and developed two Hulk-like arms, a full set of octopus tentacles, and temporary optic blasts. After he accidentally destroyed part of Strange’s lair with his eye beams, Jeff realized the Master of the Mystic Arts was locked in a tense battle with a supernatural creature.
Once the beast knocked Strange out, Jeff combined the magic substances into one ball and swallowed it whole. Jeff instantly grew several feet taller and developed crab-like pincer claws, tentacles, and massive Hulk-like legs. After blasting the creature out of the Sanctum, Jeff woke the unconscious Strange, coughed up the mystical substance, and returned to his adorable size.
JEFF’S SHOWSTOPPING SOLO
When Ronan the Accuser and a Kree army attacked Earth, Jeff and some of the Avengers’ pets ended up with the Space Stone in INFINITY PAWS INFINITY COMIC (2024) #1 by Jason Loo and Nao Fuji. After the powerful Infinity Stone transported them to the Knowhere outpost in deep space, Jeff and his animal allies teamed up with Cosmo the Space Dog and Rocket Raccoon to get home.
However, Jeff, the Pet Avengers, and several other animals from across the Marvel Universe ended up in the lair of the game-loving Grandmaster. As the Grandmaster forced the animals to compete against each other, Jeff brought down the house with a solo vocal performance in INFINITY PAWS INFINITY COMIC (2024) #8 by Loo and Fuji.
In the aftermath of his concert, Jeff and Cosmo grabbed the Infinity Stones and teleported the animals back to Knowhere. Once they wore out their welcome with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Jeff and the other Earth-based animals returned home.
JEFF AND THE SYMBIOTE
Much like Venom and Eddie Brock, Jeff has bonded with alien symbiotes on several occasions. The land shark bonded with a symbiote for the first time when Knull, the creator of the symbiotes, attacked Earth in DEADPOOL (2019) #10 by Kelly Thompson and Gerardo Sandoval. Although Deadpool separated Jeff from the aggressive symbiote, the alien and the land shark found their way back to each other a few times.
When a group of undead symbiote/zombie hybrids called the Zombiotes attacked Earth, Jeff and his symbiote re-bonded in VENOM WAR: IT’S JEFF (2024) #1 by Thompson and Gurihiru. As they searched for food to satisfy their bottomless appetite, Jeff and the symbiote sprouted a muscular set of arms and teamed up with Kate Bishop and Gwenpool to save Coney Island from the Zombiotes. Once the fighting was done, Jeff and his symbiote parted ways with a friendly fist bump.
SHADOW JEFF
While Jeff enjoys some friendly rivalries with animals like Alligator Loki, the land shark met his most serious match in JEFF THE LAND SHARK (2025) #1 by Kelly Thompson and Tokitokoro. After a picnic in the park, Jeff snuck back into Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum. While looking for food and scuffling with two mystical snakes named Anton and Aleister, Jeff accidentally unleashed a shadow demon.
The demon possessed Jeff’s shadow and transformed into his dark doppelganger. As the dark creature began jumping through space, Jeff followed him, only to land in the arms of his old pal, Deadpool. With some encouraging words from the Merc With a Mouth, Jeff tracked down the other Jeff to take a bite out of him.
