Squirrel Girl’s 5 Best Friends

Writer Ryan North breaks down Squirrel Girl's BFFs.

Squirrel Girl

How can you not love Squirrel Girl? She’s cheerful, plucky, smart, and always wants to help. Honestly, we kind of see her as the BFF we all want to have. So what does it take to be best friends with Doreen? We asked writer Ryan North for his take on which characters she’d consider her besties, and what she loves most about them.

Nancy Whitehead

Nancy is awesome because she has a lot of skill in several things: computer science, asking for what she wants, cats, knitting, and competency. I see her as the best at being competent, and how can you beat that?  She and Doreen roomed together in their first year, and became best friends by their second.

Tony Stark

Tony and Doreen go way back (all the way back to her first appearance!) and they have been scoring points off each other online ever since. Doreen brings out Tony's playful, quippy side (not that it takes much to get that out), and he acts as a mentor for her, even if he's not necessarily the kind of role model that anyone should ever aspire to emulate.

Tippy-Toe

Tippy-Toe is a squirrel with no powers whatsoever and Doreen loves her fiercely.  She helped Doreen on the moon when they saved Earth from Galactus, and most recently Tippy again helped Doreen save the planet from herself in THE UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL BEATS UP THE MARVEL UNIVERSE.

Kraven the Hunter

While we often find Kraven on the supply side of crime, he has become involved in Squirrel Girl's adventures more than once. As a result, he and Doreen have developed a deep respect for each other. Doreen would absolutely say they're friends, while Kraven would probably stay aloof and say only that he admires her restraint. Whatever, you're pals, accept it Kraven.

Ant-Man

Doreen and Scott Lang have only met recently (THE UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL #13) and while I think it's mega premature to call them pals, they have at least bonded over talking to animals (or telepathically controlling animals, as in Ant-Man's case, which Doreen found horrifying).  Anyway I'm sure they'll become pals sometime in the future, right?
