Black Panther Dominates 50th Annual NAACP Awards Nominations
Marvel received 25 nominations across several categories!
Long live the King!
As the award season continues, a lot of love and support continues to pour in for "Black Panther." The Marvel Studios film, where T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk, received an Outstanding Motion Picture nomination and 13 other nods for the 50th Annual NAACP Image Awards. Across all award categories, Marvel received an extraordinary 25 nominations!
In addition, Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman, and film director Ryan Coogler were both nominated for the Entertainer of the Year award.
Black Panther was also recognized in other forms of media across Marvel Entertainment. "Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther's Quest" was nominated Outstanding Children's Program for television, while "Black Panther: Who Is The Black Panther? Prose Novel" by Jesse James Holland Jr. was recognized for Outstanding Literary Work – Fiction.
Moving on to Marvel Television, the Netflix series "Marvel's Luke Cage" was recognized for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series (Alfre Woodard), Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series (Salli Richardson-Whitfield – I Get Physical), and Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation (Marvel’s Luke Cage Season Two” – Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad).
Rounding things out, in the world of animated features, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" nabbed three award nominations as well for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance (Mahershala Ali, Shameik Moore) and Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation.
