Women of Marvel Encore: Simone Missick on Hair, Culture, and Identity
Revisit this conversation with the star of 'Marvel's Luke Cage' about how hair can be a super power!
Two years ago, Women of Marvel welcomed actor Simone Missick -- who played Misty Knight on Marvel's Luke Cage and The Defenders on Netflix -- for an in-depth conversation about hair. In this conversation with then-guest and current co-host Angélique Roché, find out why there's more to hair than meets the eye, what it means for stories about women, and its significance to culture and identity.
Here's just a bit of what Missick had to say:
“You see that look on their face, where they go, ‘Oh! You want me as I am. You want me to come in the door the way I come in the door? Really? I don’t have to put this thing on my head and fit into this box? I can be me?' It’s the most beautiful thing to see. All of these women come in and go, 'Oh, I am enough.' And then they feel empowered to be those kinds of characters onscreen."
