Meet the Heroes of 'Infinity Paws'

Learn more about 'Infinity Paws Infinity Comic' stars Jeff the Land Shark, Chewie, Coal, Liho, and Alpine before they embark on their cosmic adventure!

The Marvel Universe is brimming with powerful pets. From the dino fury of the Runaways' Old Lace to the Inhumans' portal-hopping pooch Lockjaw, Marvel's heroes can always count on their faithful companions in tough times. Now, in INFINITY PAWS INFINITY COMIC (2024) by Jason Loo and Nao Fuji, Earth's Mightiest Pets take center stage and strike out on their own—but not by choice.

When Jeff the Land Shark and the cats of the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Ghost Rider, and Captain Marvel get caught in the crossfire of a struggle over the Space Stone, they're flung across the galaxy to the middle of Knowhere. Stranded, they're forced to embark on a pet-powered odyssey to get home. Let's meet the furry felines of INFINITY PAWS as well as some of their non-cat compadres before they begin their journey back to Earth.

Chewie

Captain Marvel's pet, Chewbacca Sassy Danvers, is not actually a cat. Chewie is a Flerken, which is a teleporting species of cat-like aliens whose mouths are full of lashing tentacles and whose bodies house a Multiverse of pocket dimensions.

First adopted by the Captain in MS. MARVEL (2006) #1 by Brian Reed, Roberto De La Torre, Jimmy Palmiotti, Chris Sotomayor, and Dave Sharpe, Chewie has mainly spent her time traveling with Carol in space or lounging around her apartment. Occasionally, some of Carol's super friends have pet-sat, including Spider-Man, as seen in MARVEL MEOW INFINITY COMIC (2022) #2

Chewie has seen her fair share of action, having battled alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy in CAPTAIN MARVEL (2014) #8 by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Marcio Takara, Lee Loughridge, and VC's Joe Caramagna. She also dealt with a Carnage infection in ABSOLUTE CARNAGE: CAPTAIN MARVEL (2019) #1 by Emily Lerner, Andrea Broccardo, LeBeau Underwood, Dono Sanchez-Almara, and VC's Clayton Cowles.

Most recently, in MARVEL UNLEASHED (2023), Chewie joined a motley crew of pet heroes to take down Darkheart, the prince of evil—no mean feat, even for a Flerken. But it makes sense that the Boss of Space would have an extraordinary pet, and Chewie's arsenal of abilities is certainly nothing to sneeze at… unless you're Jessica Drew, of course.

Coal

Coal is the cat friend of Robbie Reyes, the Avengers' own Ghost Rider. Coal first appeared in MARVEL MEOW AND PIZZA DOG (2023) #3 by Jason Loo and, being so new, not much is known about him. That said, Coal more than makes an impression in INFINITY PAWS.

Being the pet of a Ghost Rider makes Coal a Spirit Cat of Vengeance. This means that when he truly jumps into action, Coal's skull bursts into flame and his body becomes engulfed in fire, allowing him to take off like a bat out of Hell. Coal also seems to have a bit of battle experience, as he coordinated with Robbie like an old pro in the fight over the Space Stone. Enigmatic though he may be, Coal's fiery feline features definitely put him a cut above other cats.

Liho & Alpine

Unlike Coal, Black Widow and Winter Soldier's cats—Liho and Alpine, respectively—are pretty normal. Although they've experienced more explosions than your average kitty, the two are just everyday cats adopted by ex-Soviet-assassins-turned-super heroes.

Liho debuted in BLACK WIDOW (2014) #1 by Nathan Edmondson, Phil Noto, and VC's Clayton Cowles as a stray Natasha Romanoff would confide in about her missions. After failing to deny their connection, Natasha eventually named the cat and let it into her apartment to stay.

Less is known about Winter Soldier's cat, Alpine. First seen in WINTER SOLDIER (2018) #1 by Kyle Higgins, Rod Reis, and VC's Clayton Cowles, it appears Bucky adopted Alpine at some point between missions. He keeps the cat close, bringing her with him as he goes about his day. She has even accompanied him while he got his arm tuned up by Tony Stark and attended veteran's support groups, like in FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER (2020) #5 by Derek Landy, Federico Vicentini, Matt Milla, and VC's Joe Caramagna

Their people's professions often mean that Liho and Alpine get left at home, usually with a sitter like Kate Bishop or Spider-Man. The sitter is non-optional, as these two are capable of wrecking even the Avengers' garage when left unattended, as seen in MARVEL MEOW AND PIZZA DOG (2023) #3.

Jeff the Land Shark

Jeff debuted in WEST COAST AVENGERS (2018) #7 by Kelly Thompson, Daniele Di Nicuolo, Triona Farrell, and VC's Joe Caramagna as a member of M.O.D.O.K.'s army of land sharks. Following a confrontation with said army, West Coast Avengers member Gwenpool adopted Jeff, who became part of the team.

Jeff has had several caretakers since then, as Gwen gave him up to spare him from her canceled series. Most recently in his solo series IT'S JEFF! INFINITY COMIC (2021) by Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru, Jeff has been living with the Hawkeyes, specifically under the care of Kate Bishop. Jeff is essentially a baby shark with legs and, beyond some heroic tendencies, he doesn't have any special powers—unless you count being the absolute cutest, of course.

Join Jeff, Chewie, Coal, Liho, and Alpine on their cosmic adventure in INFINITY PAWS #1, now available on Marvel Unlimited!
