Former Pro Baseball Player Nelson Figueroa Revisits His Humble Beginnings on 'Marvel's Storyboards'
The former New York Mets pitcher saw himself in Peter Parker growing up -- and got to see his hero wear his team colors!
Every hero has an origin story to tell, no matter what kind of hero that may be. In sports, even heroes start out as kids with dreams of making it big -- but not all of them get to play professional baseball for their hometown team! That's exactly what happened to Nelson Figueroa, former pitcher for the New York Mets. On this episode of Marvel's Storyboards, Figueroa takes Joe Quesada, EVP, Creative Director of Marvel Entertainment, on a tour of his Coney Island roots while revealing the first time he realized he had a special gift. He also shares what inspired his love of comics, and what it meant to him to see Spider-Man don a Mets cap!
