Meet the Mystical Menagerie of 'Strange Tails Infinity Comic'

From Hellcow and Venomouse to Bats and Lockheed, discover the origins and adventures of the animals who seek Scarlet Witch's help in 'Strange Tails Infinity Comic.'

Whenever someone in the Marvel Universe desperately needs help, the Scarlet Witch’s Last Door brings them to her Emporium—and in a world brimming with mutants, demons, and aliens, the animals of the Marvel Universe need as much help as their human counterparts. While Wanda Maximoff usually assists human heroes and civilians, she takes on some furry, feathered, and four-legged clients starting in STRANGE TAILS INFINITY COMIC (2025) #1 by Preeti Chhibber, Bailie Rosenlund, Ian Herring, and VC's Travis Lanham.

From the Pet Avengers to the pets of the Avengers, let’s take a closer look at some of the animals who pay Scarlet Witch a visit in STRANGE TAILS INFINITY COMIC (2025), available exclusively on Marvel Unlimited.

VENOMOUSE

Between lethal protectors like Venom and ruthless killers like Carnage, symbiotes are some of the most dangerous creatures in the Marvel Universe. After traveling across the far reaches of the universe, one alien symbiote found an unlikely host—a lab mouse—in a WEB OF VENOMVERSE: FRESH BRAINS (2025) #1 story by Erica Schultz and Dylan Burnett. After an A.I.M. scientist brought a small sample of a symbiote into his lab, it bonded with a curious mouse to become Venomouse.

Despite their small size, both the animal and alien halves of Venomouse share a strong desire to right injustice, and they used their collective powers to free the other animals being studied at the lab. Although Venomouse briefly participated in a battle between the symbiote and Spider-Heroes of the Multiverse, the symbiote is currently more concerned with figuring out the dreams of its animal host.

BESSIE THE HELLCOW

Bessie the Hellcow began life as a cow living in Switzerland in the 1670s. After Dracula drank her blood, Bessie arose from her grave as a blood-sucking vampire in a GIANT-SIZE MAN-THING (1974) #5 story by Steve Gerber and Frank Brunner.

In the modern day, Bessie resurfaced in Cleveland, Ohio. After she drank the blood of a human farmer, Howard the Duck tracked the Hellcow down and seemingly slew her.

However, Bessie survived and fell into the hands of Doctor Kilgore, a scientist who used her vampiric milk to treat an illness. After the scientist captured Deadpool, Wade Wilson and Bessie teamed up to escape.

When Deadpool formed a group called Deadpool Inc., Bessie joined the arms-stealing mercenaries and began using a cybernetic collar to speak English. They soon discovered she was a spy for the Chameleon, leading Deadpool and his allies to thwart her plans.

By the time vampires took over the world in BLOOD HUNT (2024), Hellcow started operating an isolated farm and had a child called Hellcalf.

EBONY

Ebony may look like a normal housecat, but she is really Agatha Harkness’ familiar, the witch’s closest mystical companion. Ebony joined the Marvel Universe alongside Agatha when she debuted in FANTASTIC FOUR (1961) #94 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. When Agatha began helping the Fantastic Four by caring for Franklin Richards as his nanny, Ebony accompanied her.

Using her ability to transform into a demonic panther-like form, Ebony helped Agatha defeat the Wizard and the Frightful Four. Agatha and Ebony also helped Tigra, a feline Avenger, defeat Tabur, a cat-like humanoid genetically engineered by the High Evolutionary.

Ebony helped Agatha throughout her adventures with heroes like the West Coast Avengers, and she even injured Mephisto in her demonic form. As part of a ritual that would allow her to see the future, Agatha fed Ebony a flower from Mount Wundagore and then ate the cat. However, Ebony mysteriously reappeared alive alongside Agatha without explanation a short time later.

WALPURGIS

Brielle Brooks, AKA Bloodline, is the partially vampiric daughter of Blade the Vampire Hunter. Shortly after she joined her family’s monster-fighting legacy, Brielle encountered Agatha Harkness, who wanted to take her on as a mystical apprentice.

Around this time, Ebony gave birth to Walpurgis, a kitten-like creature with distinctive purple fur. Bloodline rejected Agatha’s offer, but Agatha gave Bloodline the kitten anyway in MARVEL’S VOICES INFINITY COMIC (2022) #96 by Anthony Oliveira and Julian Shaw.

Although Walpurgis first appeared as a cat, he can take on many other forms, and he’s grown larger than a human on occasion. Like Ebony, Walpurgis possesses multiple mystical abilities, including teleportation and the power to create a localized eclipse by temporarily blocking the Sun.

When Bloodline joined several other young heroes as a student at Avengers Academy, Walpurgis accompanied her and helped the team handle threats like Emplate. Later, Ebony fell ill, leading Walpurgis and Bloodline to travel to another dimension to retrieve a rare flower Agatha needed to treat her cat.

BATS

During Doctor Strange’s brief stint as a veterinarian, he met a basset hound named Bats in DOCTOR STRANGE (2015) #381 by Donny Cates and Gabriel Hernandez Walta. Shortly after Strange gave the dog the ability to speak, Bats died from a heart condition during a battle between Strange and Loki. Following the mystical fight, a regretful Loki brought Bats back as a talking ghost dog.

In his ghostly form, Bats quickly became one of Doctor Strange’s closest friends and allies. After Mephisto attacked Las Vegas and captured Strange, Bats ran to Wong and helped him reassemble the Midnight Sons. When Mephisto turned Strange into a demon, Bats helped the former Sorcerer Supreme by possessing him for the duration of the crisis.

Bats keeps Strange healthy by encouraging him to take morning walks around his neighborhood. He also befriended the dogs of several other heroes in MARVEL MUTTS INFINITY COMIC (2023) and joined the Pet Avengers.

LOCKHEED

Despite his dragon-like looks, Lockheed is a pet-sized alien who debuted in UNCANNY X-MEN (1963) #166 by Chris Claremont and Paul Smith. While battling a group of parasitic Brood aliens, Lockheed found Kitty Pryde, a teenage mutant who traveled to the predator-filled world with the X-Men

After rescuing Kitty, Lockheed left his people, the Flock, and returned to Earth with the mutant heroes. Lockheed saved Kitty’s life again, and the pair became close companions through her time with the X-Men and Excalibur, a British team of mutants.

Thanks to his ability to breathe fire and understand all languages, Lockheed joined S.W.O.R.D. as a secret agent and spied on the X-Men for the cosmic intelligence agency. Lockheed also became a core member of the Pet Avengers and has children with another alien dragon named Puff. Through the rise and fall of the mutant nation Krakoa, Lockheed stayed close to Kitty, who recently rescued him from one of Mister Sinister’s labs.

MUNIN AND HUGIN

Like their counterparts in Norse mythology, Munin and Hugin are Odin’s two great ravens. These Asgardian birds flew into the Marvel Universe in THOR (1966) #274 by Roy Thomas and John Buscema.

With the ability to cross the barriers between worlds, Munin and Hugin soar across the Ten Realms and keep the All-Father up to date with news from every branch of Yggdrasill, the World Tree. When they’re not flying across dimensional planes, the ravens frequently sit perched on Odin’s shoulders, where they whisper warnings of Ragnarok and other impending dangers in his ear.

Thanks to their ability to speak and their vast knowledge, Munin and Hugin have offered Asgard’s heroes critical support in battle, and one raven was even among the first casualties in Malekith’s attack in WAR OF THE REALMS (2015). Although the ravens have been quick to criticize Thor for making questionable decisions, Munin and Hugin helped the Thunder God face Doctor Doom and assemble the Thor Corps.
