For International Youth Day, The Cast of ‘Marvel Rising’ Shares Some Advice For Today’s Youths

Here are ways to encourage and empower the next generation of heroes!

Every year on August 12, the U.N. recognizes and celebrates the role of young people around the world as agents of impact for their community with International Youth Day.

As we head closer to the release of “Marvel Rising: Initiation” on Disney XD this Monday, August 13 at 7:30 PM, Marvel.com talked to a couple stars of the animated shorts series with a focus on inclusivity, empowerment, and relatability on what advice they’d love to impart to the next generation of heroes – our fans!

On Standing Up For Your Beliefs

“If you feel passionately enough about something, you need to move forward with that. You’re going to grow up, and every moment along the way, you were the best version of you that you could be. It will be difficult sometimes, but you won’t regret doing what you know in your heart was the right thing to do.” – Kat Khavari, who voices Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel

On Insecurities

“If there’s an insecure voice in my head, I have to pay attention to where that’s coming from. Is it coming from me? Is it coming from the me that loves me, or is it a message I’ve been told somewhere else? Whether if it’s that my voice has to sound a certain way, or my body needs to look a certain way, or that I need to be educated or successful…The things that are telling me that I’m not good enough are often not true. Being able to separate that voice and know that it’s not me has honestly helped me be happier and to have peace with myself.” – Milana Vayntrub, who voices Doreen Green AKA Squirrel Girl

“Don’t strive to be normal; you’ll be like everyone else. You weren’t meant to be like everybody else. Realize your differences are what makes you you. It’s what makes you special.” – Kamil McFadden, who voices Rayshaun Lucas AKA Patriot

On Supporting Others

“A great way to be a leader is to find out what matters to people and help them achieve it. A lot of times, people think a leader is just a person with one vision and rallies a bunch of people to help them. But really, they’re the kind of person that can find out what other people’s intentions and goals are. Everyone wins when the leader gets what they want because it’s such a communal goal.” – Milana Vayntrub, who voices Doreen Green AKA Squirrel

On Pursuing Your Dreams

“There is great value in hard work. Trust that if you put your all into it, if you’re willing to make some sacrifices to get where you want to go, you’ll get there. You just have to keep trying. Don’t give up and don’t hear ‘no.’ When you hear ‘no,’ believe in yourself because if you don’t believe in yourself, no one is going to believe in you. Believe in yourself first, and keep going.” – Kat Khavari, who voices Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel
