The Mutts

When they’re not living life as the best canine companions to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Mutts spend time doing what dogs do best: exploring the dog park, hanging at Avengers Mansion, playing fetch through never-ending portals, and saving seemingly helpless alien Flerken kittens…maybe these beloved mutts of the super-powered break the mold a bit…

Top Dogs

Coming from being best friends to all manner of Super Heroes, the Mutts are a pack of pooches who stick together as they go through their daily lives, having adventures and just being good doggos.

The group often gathers at Avengers Mansion and consists of Inhuman teleporter Lockjaw, the soviet telepath Cosmo the Spacedog, the elderly basset hound from the beyond, Bats, and keeper of the peace on the streets of New York, Lucky the Pizza Dog. The roster grows when Avenger Kamala Khan, AKA Ms. Marvel, brings home the 2-year-old cockapoo Mittens, who impresses the group with her Captain America toy plushie.

Ms. Marvel seems to take personal responsibility over all the Mutts in the mansion, but often shares her dog mom duties with fellow Super Heroes Miles Morales, AKA Spider-Man, America Chavez, AKA America, and Gwen Poole, AKA Gwenpool.

Doggo Dynamic

The Mutts are taken care of by several Super Heroes, of the Avengers variety, including Ms. Marvel, Miles Morales, AKA Spider-Man, America Chavez, and Gwen Poole, AKA Gwenpool. Though overall, Ms. Marvel seems to take the lead on caring and providing for the team. 

Each mutt has their own respective super-power, save Mittens. The teleporter Lockjaw is big and protective of the littlest member of the team, Mittens; the telepathic Cosmo the Spacedog speaks with a Russian accent and and while he has a salty demeanor, he loves his pup pals; Bats is a talking basset hound who’s also a ghost; and Lucky the Pizza Dog loves to eat pizza and is an all around good, helpful boy.

Barking up the Wrong Tree

While always ready to defend their hero companions from anyone that would harm them, the Mutts contend with Super Villains and attackers, such as a giant ant.

Canine Companions

Mostly, the Mutts hang out with each other at Avengers Mansion and go around town doing what dogs do, like going to the dog park and playing fetch.

While capable on their own, The Mutts still need to be walked regularly so Ms. Marvel taps her Avenger allies to walk the dogs, such as Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, Felicia Hardy, AKA Black Cat, Fabio Medina, AKA Egg, Reed Richards, AKA Mister Fantastic, Emma Frost, Johnny Storm, AKA Human Torch, Tippy-Toe, Lunella Lafayette, AKA Moon Girl, Devil Dinosaur, Sarah Knuckey, AKA Marrow, James Howlett/Logan, AKA Wolverine, and Jamie Madrox, AKA Multiple Man.

Dog Day Afternoons

Often together at Avengers Mansion, the Mutts shared all kinds of adventures and misadventures. They spent holidays together, such as Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the latter of which came with dreaded fireworks. The explosions upset all the Mutts, who ran off to hide from the awful sounds. Mittens ran away, but the Mutts and the heroes tracked her down, and Spider-Man gave all the mutts web earmuffs to block the sound. 

The Mutts also made friends with other animal heroes. When Doreen Green, AKA Squirrel Girl, and her squirrel partner Tippy-Toe visited Avengers Mansion, Mittens and the other Mutts were playing around outside only to find a stray orange kitten stuck in a nearby tree. Lockjaw teleported the kitty to the ground below. Suddenly, a giant ant attacked only to be sucked into the kitten’s mouth via tentacles, revealing itself to be a Flerken–a race that looks like domesticated cats capable of storing pocket universes within themselves.

When Ms. Marvel got too busy doing hero stuff, she asked her X-Men and Avenger allies to step in and care for the pooch pack. One day while enjoying the great outdoors, they meet up with Devil Dinosaur, who is much larger than the dogs and has trouble playing with them, until Mittens shares her ball and they find commonality. When one of the Mutts, Cosmo, looks quite sad outside while reminiscing over his troubled past, so the group joined him, which instantly cheered him up.

Fantastic Four ally Johnny Storm, AKA Human Torch, to look after the pooch pack at the Baxter Building. But Johnny had to run out and left H.E.R.B.I.E. in charge. Things went all kinds of sideways for H.E.R.B.I.E., with Cosmo taking the Fantasticar out for a spin, Bats getting blasted by an anti-phaser that froze him in place, and Mittens taking the Thing suit out for a wall-smashing walk. But things calmed down as soon as Johnny returned with food for the Mutts, giving H.E.R.B.I.E. a much needed break from dog sitting.
