What You Need

  • Embroidery needle
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Masking tape (optional)

Squirrel Girl

  • Orange, brown, and forest green embroidery thread
  • Dark brown and light brown craft foam
  • Hot glue gun

Ms. Marvel

  • Red, royal blue, and yellow embroidery thread
  • Yellow craft foam

Get Started!

Step One: Begin by drawing small symbols on the craft foam.

For Ms. Marvel, draw a small lightning bolt and cut it out of the foam.

For Squirrel Girl, draw an acorn shape (the bottom half) on the light brown foam, and cut it out. Place the acorn piece on the dark brown foam, draw the top part or “hat” shape of the acorn around it, and cut it out. Carefully hot glue the two edges together to complete the acorn.

Step Two: Next, cut two long pieces of embroidery thread per color, for a total of six long threads. Line up the ends of the thread together and tie the pieces all together a few inches from the end.

For young crafters, separate the threads by color and braid the three sections together about the length of your BFF’s wrist. Tie the end and trim it with scissors, leaving enough loose thread to tie the bracelet together around their wrist.

For more experienced crafters, use the masking tape to secure the knotted end on the table. (Or you can ask your BFF to hold it for you.) Arrange the threads by color and separate each one.

Step Three: Take the far left thread and place it at an angle on the thread to the right of it, making a number 4 shape. Pull the end of the far left thread through to tie a knot. Repeat on the same thread. Then move on to the next thread to the right, looping it twice, and again on the next thread.

Once you’ve made it down the row, start again with the thread on the far left. This should create a striped pattern on the bracelet.

Step Four: Keep going until it’s long enough to tie around your BFF’s wrist. Then tie the end and trim it with scissors, leaving enough loose thread to tie the bracelet together around their wrist.

Step Five: Use a needle and thread to attach the symbols to your bracelet.

Note: If you’re having trouble threading the needle, dab a small amount of glue on the ends of the thread and rub them into a point.
